Does anyone know anything about these? It’s not a military 7.62x51 conversion but I can’t seem to find any mention online of a commercial conversion.

Hey fellas,

Its definitely not a stock Hakim and I don’t think it’s a Hakim bubba job either. I’m going to try and get some pictures to post. No mag with the rifle makes it hard to tell how it started life.

It could be a Inskjutningsgevär 5110 but I haven’t been able to find any info on those either so it’s hard to contrast/compare.

When the AgB42 rifles first came into Canada, finding ammo for them was difficult and expensive. Dominion had already quit producing it and brass had to be imported.

There were quite a few M96, M38 bolt rifles around that had been converted to several different commercial cartridges available at the time. 308 winchester was one of them, along with other cartridges built on the case.

It was only normal for the AgB42 to be converted to 308 Win.

Some of these conversions suffered catastrophic failures. They were just fine with surplus ammo but some of the commercial stuff and handloads were loaded with heavy bullets as well as being hot rodded. One thing led to another. One fellow I knew went so far as to figure out the gas port diameter from the barrel for the 308 Win. He was a meticulous sort and his rifle functioned well in all respects. He kept everything the same, other than barrel diameter. Same overall length, muzzle brake etc. He never shot anything with bullet weights over 150 grain.

Some of these conversions were done very well, just like the SVT 38s and 40s that were converted to 303 British. Still, it was a gamble when you picked one of these rifles up. Unlike the SVT38/40 rifles which were converted commercially in Finland, I don't know of any commercial conversions of the AgB42.

I've also seen a few Hakims converted to 7.62x51 and so stamped. Again these were done in home workshops or maybe in the shop of some enterprising gunsmith. Can't see why though. The amount of work and cost of barrels would be prohibitive at best. But the odd customer is willing to pay for a novelty piece.

Bearhunter, thank you for that - very interesting and informative! I never did get any more details from the seller because it sold for $250. See the ####### ad below:

The new owner may have a difficulty making it function without a magazine. There was a chap on the EE selling a stock AG42B for $350, but that may not fit 7.62 x 51. Normal is 6.5 x 55 Swedish.

The issued magazines feed 7.62x51 cartridges into the chambers just fine, without any modification

Many decades ago, in a coastal land far away, I saw one of these poor things which had been totally Bubba-ized.

It had been turned into a very Sick Bird.

Pistol grip.

Bullpupped stock.

Offset optical sight.

Modified Bren bipod.

Fed from modified Bren mags.

Selective fire.

I did not have a camera in those days, so no photos, but I did see it.

WANTED to see how the S/F conversion was done, but owner would not let me strip it down to investigate.

I am REALLY glad my fingerprints weren't on it!

They did have select fire versions of the rifles. When I purchased my first batch of them from Internaional, Tony told me that there weren't any select fire versions available. Most of the rifles had been converted from the "C" version to the "B" version. Actually I don't recall seeing any of the rifles in the "C" condition. Most of them have the "C" stamped with a slash through it and re stamped "B"
