Deer Rifle!

What would it be?

Factory? Custom? What would you chamber it in? What action?

I have a plethora of "all-around" rifles in "all-around" cartridges and am hoping to find a deer rifle (and deer only) rifle that I can carry when the lord of tag draws doesnt shine in my favour.

What would you carry?

I am currently leaning towards a Zastava in 6.5x55mm.

I already have it. Sako 75 finnlight action, .575", 21" shilen ss, .260 Rem, McMillan EDGE, VXIII 2.5-8x w/turret

If only one deer rifle I would go the custom route, it would be built on a stainless M70 short action or the like, and a wildcat or mcmillan stock with a 24" barrel and it would be chambered in 284win.

I know it's not pretty, or fancy, but my number one go to deer rifle when it looks like I might not get a deer that year (and I put the 45-70 or .54 cal hawken away) is a old blued synthetic Tikka T3 6.5x55. It came to me with a Bausch and Lomb 2-7x32 and it worked great on a pile of deer.

I've since put a Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14 x 42 on it and it's an 18 ounce scope but it feels nice to have the option to really zoom in while stand hunting with a solid rest. I probably gave up about 4 ounces in weight, but it made it a better tool. The B&L did find a home on my Sako .375 though. Fits nicely on that rifle.

Been in the family since day one.

Way things are going it'll be the only thing i'll have left after they come knock'n.....

Pretty much anything in my cabinet would be fine, but if you want to pin it down, in this moment, I would choose my Ruger M77-RS Mark II Carbine .358 Win.

Bottom rifle;

Deer? What are we talking though, muleys in big country where 500+ yards is a possibility on a 350+ lb deer? 243AI on a Remington 700, original Ti stock, and 105 Amax with a proven scope that tracks when dialed.

Whitetails where 350 yards is starting to be reaching far? Kimber Montana 223AI, 75 Amax, same glass as above. Double
duty on big muleys knowing that there may be some shot presentations you might have to pass on when you are getting out there.
