If you could only have one...

For a deer (and damn near anything else) rifle, if I could only have one it would be something in an 7mm STW or something that got scared really bad by one. If that turned into a 7-300 or 28 Nosler it wouldn't change things much. Platform could be anything from a pre 64 Win to a Defiance, depending on a few things.

I've been really enjoying my Howa Mini in 6.5 Grendel. It's taken a couple of deer now and may become my go to "one gun". It's going in a LSS chassis next week to see how I like that for coyotes this winter. I've also been seeing a lot of wolf tracks lately so maybe I'll get to try it on one of those also.

I have grown extremely fond of my Steyr Prohunter in .270. Deadly accurate, I don't need to worry about denting the wood, two stage mag, and the wheel safety has grown on me.

Well seeing as I only hunt large game locally with one rifle it’ll be my No.4 LB sporter in .303Brit, I love being out with it in my hands. If I could change one thing about it, I’d make it a left handed action. Otherwise there’s nothing I’d do to it.

From what I have now in the safe, I'd keep this custom 700 in Brown Precision in 280.

Got this small deer the very first time I carried it afield.

I too have a few deer rifles to choose from... factory, semi-custom and custom...

Ruger 77 RSI 250 Savage
Rem 700 LH CDL 250AI
Browning LH X Bolt 6.5 CM
Sako 85 LH Hunter 6.5x55
Winchester 88 7mm-08 Rem
Winchester Model 88 284 Win
Rem 700 LH XCR 280 Rem

But just one...very hard to choose...between the 6.5x55 and the 280...Swede probably wins!

Well, I smartened up some and figured I'm better off putting a nicer variable power scope on my Win M70 in 270Win instead of buying another hunting rifle. I felt a bit hampered with the fixed 6x36mm Leupold this past hunting season in some of the brush, so now I'm thinking a VX3i 3.5-10x40mm. The 2.5-8x36 was my top choice, but Id have to switch to a picatinny rail as the bases are too far apart for that scope.
