Best semi

Best semi? That’s easy. I’ve had a bunch of semis and the volquartsen built 10/22, stainless steel receiver and trijicon iron sights on it is the nicest one I’ve bought. Also have a volquartsen receiver build with kidd parts and kidd barrel but that light weight volquartsen is my favourite. Bolt assembly is dlc coated. Feels like glass sliding the bolt back

Where did you get your volquartsen?

Sylvester source for sports in Alberta. I ordered it from their store. What an amazing rifle. I put my deltapoint pro red dot on it and the machined in pic rail is open down the middle so I I can use my iron sights while having an optic on it. Incredible 10/22. You won’t be disssapointed if you get one

That’s the one I have

Buy used, get a Austrian Voere semi . Hit a dime at 70 yards. Seen a few for sale. Mine is over 40 years old and still as accurate as when my dad got it used. Voere Kufstein M55

I will put my vote in for the Remington 597. Very decent plinker for sure!

Strongly agree with this.

Put a set of precision Tech Sights on that thing and you'll see some pretty impressive stuff even with bulk junk ammo at 100 meters.
It's my only semi auto 22 now for 10 years running. I very quickly sold my 10/22's after I picked it up. Way cheaper. Better accuracy. Bolt hold open on empty mag.
Great balance, weight, stock trigger is very nice. They were half the price of a standard 10/22.
I hear of people having reliability issues but I've never had a single issue. Using any type of ammo and even in deep cold winter etc

It's on my never sell list.

I had to scratch this particular itch a few years ago. Bought an Anschutz MSR RX-22, shoots better than my 455 and without breaking out the calipers, as well as my 452 Varmint. Can also shoot a very wide variety of ammo and have it cycle reliably.

Also...10/22's are boring! :nest:

I love it, my kids and wife love it, you cant ask for much more than that considering 3 years ago my wife had never shot a rifle before.

Winchester 490, definitely underrated and a bit of a bargain.

Stepping up price wise, Weatherby XXII, though extra mags are hard to find and not inexpensive.

CZ 511 or Brno 581. But both are out of production. The Marlin 60 or 795 are priced right and will feed large cavity hollow point

Savage isn't well regarded because of the lack of aftermarket support but I still love them.

Savage A22 functions more reliable than anything else I've seen out of the factory. Subsonic ammo CCI SV in -8 degrees temps and zero stove pipes or feeding issues. For some reason though they hate hollow point rounds. The magazines are fantastic and easy to load hundreds of rounds without any discomfort. They eject positively and naturally into the palm of your hand.

You can find the Savage A22 FV-SR (tapered heavy barrel, threaded muzzle and rail) for $350 tops at regular price. Recently I've see the Savage A22 FXP (normal barrel with 3-9 scope) from Cabelas for $300. Both ship with a 10 round and a 25 round mag. You can't get better value out of your dollar... But if you wanna spend you certainly can get a better rifle

probably an A22 and a B22 for a bolt would be all a person needs.

Well time for my two cents. Dlask receiver with Kidd match barrel or Carbon tension if you want light weight. Kidd trigger and bolt with colour coded springs to match ammo for proper cycling and bolt buffer with threaded trigger pins (which make a difference). Stock is a personal preference. I have owned just about every kind of trigger and NONE compare to the Kidd and the two stage is unbelievable. The single stage has no equal. The Dlask v block is also nice for eliminating barrel droop. Not cheap but deadly accurate and reliable. Or the same recipe with a McGowan barrel in 17 Mach 2 from Jerry at Mystic. Now ur talkin flat shootin squirrel whacker at 100yds and still head shots. Thanks Jerry for the barrel donation at the Eastern Canadian CRPS championship. My buddy won it and gave it to me and oh my what a dirty little gun I built with it. Thanks Chris. Brybenn if you ever go to any Outlaw shoots or live near one that I attend let me know and ill bring a couple different ones that I bought or built for you to try and see what floats ur boat. I shoot in Orillia at Scubas events and also Lower Trent as well as Stitsville and Pettawawa and expanding haha

Thanks for the offer. I too love the 17mach2. Its my favorite squirrel rifle. I use a savage heavy barrel pre accutrigger. I swapped the wood stock and modified a fv stock to fit it and gave it a nice copperhead rattle can paint job. It really blends in with autumn leaves now.
Im a bit of a drive from your area. Im down closer to windsor. Maybe next summer ill have time after a kayak trip to stop in if timing works out

Well if you could manage to be at one of Scubas shoots in Orillia we could definitely make it work and that's about a 50 50 split on the drive. Your correct about the Mach 2 and don't know why more gunners never realized the awesome performance out of such a diminutive little cartridge. Sighting in is easy ,minute of nickel from muzzle to 100yds. Just happy it got a bit of a revival and laugh at people saying the ammo is too expensive. My Vudoo is deadly but still a 6 plus moa hold at !00 with a 50 yard zero and 2.5 at 75 but the Mach 2 is so close to point of aim the head is easy at all these distances. I own three different ones from the 200$ Savage to much more expensive. All will rival the most expensive 22 Rimfire bolt guns I have ever owned. Just lucky? Don't think so but lucky to have been introduced to this awesome little round. Cheers to all and have a safe and merry Xmas. Hold ur loved ones close and help a stranger not so blessed!!
