Brand new to reloading here, what would be the ideal charge for a 125gr CMJTCFP bullet with hp-38? i cant seem to find reloading data for it, i can find it for the hornady bullets and lead cast ones but not for the plated ones. can someone help me out? i was thinking somewhere around 4.3-4.5 gr but im not too sure.

Hogdon load data is online. And yes very important to use jacketed data, or you just might stick one in the barrel, and that can ruin your day.

I would think somewhere around 3.7 grains should be a good starting point. But using published load data is better than random internet charges.
I know I use 3.2grains of HP38 in 38spl with the Campro 148grn hbwc. And I think it was about 2.8grains with the BDX lead hbwc.

Ironic since I gave the OP published data in the 2nd post and you provide a "random internet charge", lol.

You have to use jacketed Data for plated bullets. There is more friction with those than cast lead, and you need more powder. I have stuck campro bullets using minimum charges meant for cast bullets. If you happened to be shooting fast, you might stick one and send a second one right into it. That can mess you up.

Campro says to use FMJ data with their plated bullets.

Their plating is thicker than many other brands so they perform closer to jacketed, at least that's what they say. I would agree after much testing over a chronograph. It will also help avoid stuck bullets like some have mentioned.

Um, yea...and I still say that you will not stick a Campro bullet using Hodgdon data for a lead bullet. 3.8 grains is plenty to push it out of the barrel.

Are you piggy backing on my ummm yeah? Get your own ummm yeah! lol.

It sure didn't look that way, adding context is often helpful. Here I'll fix it for you...

Exactly! Campro says to use FMJ data with their plated bullets.

It seems pretty obvious that if you say something and I provide a source to confirm what you said, then we agree. But anyway, now you know I agreed with you and we can just leave it at that.
