he has tried to kill a bear with his 223 loaded with Barnes 53 grain Triple Shocks, but keeps coming up empty. Im sure it would make for an interesting report on the bullet performance from such a small cartridge plugged with a premium hunting bullet. What could be the result?

I guess we will never know, at the rate he is going...:yingyang:

I never got a 100 yard broadside shot this spring, when I had the 223..Just when I carried a 7mm or 300WSM.:)

Fall spring season has just opened, so be patient. I shoudl be able to find a bear.;)

so lemme guess ........ the 375 Ruger is yer new varmint gun. ;)

How do the TSXs shoot in your .223? I was thinking about getting some for my 22/250 for deer hunting. Maybe some 60gr Partitions as well.

.

They shoot very well, under an inch at 100 yards. Never tried them out further, because I have no intention of shooting an animal further than 100 yards wih them.:)

222 on black bear

I know the 223 and the x bullet will do it
a friend of mine in Northern ontario has a home on the montreal river and the kids were swimming in the river in front of the house and big black bear started swimming the river Towards the kids he grabbed the first rifle he could get his hands on a BSA222 and got a shot off as it was approaching the kids the bullet struck the water in front of the bear he turned and climbed out on the bank , the next shot took him in the lungs at 125 yds and he dropped on the spot .
it was plain old winchester ammo 50gr. I beleive(not sure on that)

Hey Paul,I never tried the TSX'S but i did try the 60 grain partitions out of my 220 swift, and patterns would be a better word then groups for my results with them.

Funny because i got the the 70 grain speers to shoot cloverleafs on the second load i tried??? I would think the 70 grainers would be longer but i didn't actually measure to see.

It Is a Sako(1 in 14 twist).

I was told that the 70's performed well on deer but was later told by someone else they behave more like a varmint bullet so i don't know which is true ,as i never had it on hand anytime i had the opportunity to shoot a deer.

Anyways,I traded of what i had left(Nosler Partitions) to Cyril so if you wanted to try them for yourself you might check to see if he has any left or not.

If you try the TSX'S out of your 22-250 will you please let me know your results.Thanks.Robin.

The 70gr Speers has always been good shooters in my A-Bolt 22/250. They are shorter than you would think as they are semi-spitzers.

It could be, maybe be done with some 77-80 grainers.
Heavier would be better, but I don't think that many sporter .223s would be rifled fast enough for those long bullets. The shorter/lighter premium bullets should work fine.

I've got a load using the old 50 gr. x bullet for my .22-250. I may well use it to fill my doe tag this fall. I've also got some 62 TSX to try out og my 1-8" .223. I have a feeling both will do the job admirably.
I tried some of the factory Federal 60 gr. NP loads, and they shot terribly out of my 1-14" factory Remmy tube. It shoots 64gr. Win PPs fine though.

Good point, not that I think it's morally wrong or anything, the wink had the purpose of bringing the smile to a face of a good ol' boy doing something for the heck of it.
I know a Native fella outside of Nordegg that hunts everything with his old .225 Winchester. He thinks the dang thing is lighting.
I wish I lived in a province were I could use a 22-243 Middlestead to knock off my does:mad:

I've spoken with many advocates of the .223 & .22-250 for deer, moose & elk around this area  I think I'll load up my .223 bolt gun with some of those "heavy" factory 55gr SP's and go start blasting those death-rays at moose :sniper: Gee...maybe I can become a one-gun hunter and sell off the rest of my guns except the '94 .30-30. Better keep that one for grizzlies tho
