Im looking for a project rifle/action in the style of a Martini Henry/Enfield. Single shot falling block action. I want to put a modern barrel on it and have my version of a perfect little fun gun in 762x54r, 303, 357, 45-70 or something else along those lines. Any recomendations on what i could look for as a donor action that people are not asking stupid prices for?

Wes

Finding a strong single shot action is hard. A cheep one is very hard. The project can be fun, but not cost effective. As one who prefers singles, I recommend you buy what you want and start using it now. Good luck .

NOM4D,
Have ye seen the Damko Martini units from the US? They come in a nice selection of chamberings including 25-35 Win, 30-30, 30-40 Krag, 303 Brit, 357 mag & 44 mag. Nicely made rifles with modern features like the drop out trigger group. They not be cheap at around 1800-1900 or so US but they can save ye a fair bit of coin over a custom build.

Its pretty straght forward. A Martini style action, in one of those calibers. Ill be rebarreling it and fitting it myself, im more than confident ill be fine.

Yeah... not so straight forward... your list of cartridges have very little in common, other than they hold and release bullets and then you say "or something along those lines."

Ok... then I recommend either a .22 Hornet or a .458 WM.

Tried to answer your pm but your still set on auto reply.
Maybe send me your email or ph # and I can contact that way.

The auto reply is automatic for every PM, I responded... going to remove the auto reply though, lots of people say they don't like it.

I tried several times to order a 25/35. No success. Horrible service and no distribution as of several years ago

Oof, yea you got the right idea, but thats out of my budget xD Thanks tho!

Perhaps a used Ruger No.1 in a rimmed cartridge can be re barrelled to your specifications ?

Yea, would be great but they also cost a stupid amount of money, but id love a no1 or a no3!

You might want to reconsider the project then, because you won't get custom work done any cheaper. Even if you do all the work yourself, the price of the action, barrel blank, reamers, etc, will still have you over a grand easily.

I think the theme is rimmed cartridges.

Cost nothing when you do it yourself actually, just time.

Martini / other $400-700, barrel 2-400, wood 100-500, reamer 50-150. I’ve sold 2 martini 303s in the last couple years for 450-500. Most seem more. A rem rolling block for 6 and a low wall for 6. It is a hard hunt and cheep is relative. It is nice to have a single in what you want. Just have to decide what job it is going to do, ie: plinker target hunt or speciality.
