It is now fact that I will have my 264 Win mag rebarreled. I'm going 1-8 twist, they're asking 4 or 6 grooves? Any input?

Shouldn’t you be asking them and they should be telling you the differences in the number of grooves and benefits of one over the other for your intended purposes.
Nothing wrong with asking the question here to see if they are pulling your leg or actually giving you some good information.

I guess I'm the kind of guy who asks for different advice ..... Someone might come up with something that wasn't mentionned or asked.....

It makes absolutely no difference so take what is available. Of all the things a person can worry about when choosing a barrel, the choice between four, five, six or eight grooves is way down the list.

I just had an 8 twist 6 groove spun up by JC Customs. I only went 6 groove because the last one he chambered for me just hammers and it was a 6 groove. So I felt why change anything. But I don't think it matters. The quality of the barrel and chamber job will be a much bigger concern. Frank at Bartlein Barrels has several posts on the forums about this saying they don't see a difference.

I still stick with a 9 twist and shoot long 140 grain bullets very fast... 4 or 6 grooves doesn't matter to me...
