I found this pair of binos at a thrift store last summer for a few bucks, pretty rough shape, but good glass. Figured I could clean them up into something functional.

There was no smell to them, but the entire set and a thick nicotine coating. The main focus lever was missing a bushing. And the rubber cups around the eye pieces are cracked where they meet the body.

I cleaned most of the body with rubbing alcohol. At least to the point where I could handle them without needing to wash my hands immediately after. I'm considering a bit of disassembly and giving them a bath in the ultrasonic cleaner. Anything I should worry about if I go this far?

The focus bushing was a relatively easy fix. Tapped a piece of brass and turned it down to fit the slot on which the focus rides. There's a bit of a step in the slot, this bushing must have been missing for a while for the screw to gouge it, but it's functional. I may attempt to line it up in the mill and cut the slot oversize then replacing the bushing again. But for now it's functional, and that's all I wanted.

The last part to address will be the rubber eye cups. They're functional as is, but I'd like to get these back to "gently used". Assuming I'll just have to reach out to Bushnell and see what they can provide. I doubt there's much in the way of aftermarket parts for something like this. Just snowballing here as I type, maybe flip up covers would replace these pieces and provide protection to the glass.

End goal for these is just something functional to leave at the hunt camp. I'll get some pics up between the holidays. Open to any suggestions for things to try when I'm cleaning or fixing them up. Cheers

Bushnell has a warranty centre near Bass Pro in Vaughn. Since you're in the gta, I would take them in there and see what they have for parts. The staff I spoke to there were helpful and knowledgeable. One of the scopes I took in had a bent tube, so it wasn't a warranty claim, but they gave me a smokin' deal on a replacement and kept my old scope for parts. Maybe they'll have some bino parts from a similar exchange. Based on my experience, if they have them, the price would be right.

Edit: Address is 140 Great Gulf Drive, Unit B, Vaughn ON L4K 5W1

I'm sure if you go and see Bushnell they will probably give you some eye cups. They have always been very good in there service department. Be careful if you take them apart, the mirrors inside can be very difficult to align align after they have been removed.
