I recently splurged and finally picked up a Savage Axis XP .223 Rem and I also grabbed a couple of boxes of Winchester el cheepo $9.00 55 gr fmj to get me started. I was going to use thiz brass to start load development but upon close inspection, this brass is not as good quality as the regular Winchester brass. Has anybody used this stuff to reload with ? What were your experiences with it ??

If your particular rifle likes it, use it. It's a bit heavier than the Winchester brass encountered in component bags so begin with a start load and work your way up.

As for not as good of quality??? I have about a thousand pieces of that brass. I had to sort it by weight because of the wide variation. You will also find that the case lengths will vary after firing. This is pretty much normal. Just keep in mind it isn't MATCH QUALITY BRASS.

I'm still working on the first weight lot, of 100 rounds. These have all been used in one rifle and they've all been reloaded a dozen times with only one normalization treatment.

You don't mention whether or not you have the necessary tooling for reloading. I would assume you have a press and scale?? I will suggest you get a primer pocket cleaner, inside/outside case mouth finisher, and if you can afford one, a case length trimmer. You can also trim cases with a file and trim die.

The 223 rem isn't bad for stretching if you don't load it to the nuts. It does harden though after 4-6 firings and needs to be normalized.

I don't believe the composition of the brass itself is of a lesser quality than their component brass. Maybe not as well finished and held to a lower level of quality control.

Hard to say what's what these days. Many companies job out the manufacture of the brass and package it under their brand name.

Ya, I'm fully equiped for reloading, the only thing I'm missing is a case length trimmer but next time I'm in Cowtown I'll pick one up. Havent tried any reloads yet with this brass we aretalking about yet, just want some feedback on it before I do.

I’m currently using that white box brass to load for my Ruger 22-250VT. I’ve weight sorted it, de-burred the flash holes, annealed, and trimmed to same length. I use Forster dies and have got a 1/2 moa load worked up with Sierra 1410’s.

There’s Nothing wrong with that brass.

Depending on your box code the ammo could be US (Win), Israeli (IMI) or Korean (PMC). All are good brass but could differ from other Winchester marked ammo as far as brass weight/capacity.
