thanks

They are available on the used market. The guns are more readilly found in the UK, as it is still legal to hunt with them there. This English web site has a couple for sale, one double and one single shot (use the find function on your browser and look for "8 bore"). Get out your piggy bank, they don't come cheap.

I understand that ammo can be built from modified Remington industrial shells. It should be possible to find a less expensive muzzle loader, if you are so inclined.

Collector's Source did have an 8 gauge double on their site a couple weeks ago - must have sold, as I don't see it there any more. $800 if I remember correctly.

I believe it is illegal to hunt with anything over 10 gauge. But if you want to shoot one Ballistic Products ( ww w.bilozir.net ) their Canadian agent has cases and wads.

there's a company in cape breton that sells antique guns. damned if i can remeber their name. i think i found it by just typing in muzzleloaders. anyway they had 1 plus an 11 ga. and others

Save the cases from the seismic work, there is probably someone here who can use them. 8 guage is used in the big steel mills to shoot the clinkers in the furnaces. I believe the bases have to be swaged before the cases can be reloaded and fired in a shotgun.

That would likely be Joe Salter. Just do a Google search on the name and it will take you to his site.
