The Lee-Enfield by Skennerton

A 100$ is painfully expensive,is that the special commemorative version or the regular one that is a 100$?
I understand how expensive it is to do small print runs of a book that I would guess would need an incredible amount of intense research. Maybe I will get our local library to pick one up they are awesome about buying new books I have suggested and already have a bunch of first rate knifemaking books like the Loveless one?

I am really looking forward to seeing this one in person.

$100 for a niche book like this isn't uncommon. Some of the Jane's books brand new are $600+

LES was $75-115 new. A couple of used copies went for well over double to triple that on EPay not that long ago.

I still have to buy the original BSL because there were pics in that which aren't in LES, and I'm buying the new Century book for the same reason.

Skennerton Enfield Book

I got a call from Ian Thursday and he was sending mine out Friday. I wanted the fancy one but I have mostly working books I use them all the time, so it wouldn't stay fancy for long. I hope it isn't as dull as the other book, I fall asleep in some parts. I find the material is great but dry.

New Lee-Enfield Book Arrived by Ian Skennerton

I just got my Lee-Enfield Book on Friday and it's a great book.

Much bigger pages and thicker than the first one. It comes with ribbons like the old bibles to mark the pages.

Some of the material is from his other publications but is a much improved Lee-Enfield Bible.

I have most of his books and I haven't been dissapointed with any of them.

You had best hope the library will lend it out for a month! It will take that long to get through it!;)
AND THEN you will forget half of the stuff in it. Break doiwn and buy the standard copy.

Great book & amazing work, but;

Alas, in my particular interest it has indeed disappointed me.

Unfortunately the info on No4 & L42 snipers has not been updated with the corrected info now available.

Check out the thread on Jouster for the correction of the miss-information on L42 snipers being re-issued & newly manufactured for Iraq/Afganistan.

Apparently IS should really have fact checked with Clive Law & Peter Laidler....

Every book has some flaws. Chipcase-Dowell's book on the Webley lists a Webley Green and there ain't no such animule. It's a Webley Government.
Green had a seperate firm with NO connection to Webley. However that myth has persisted in later articles.
Condemming the entire work just because of an error isn't a fair assessment of the effort required to put somethintg like this together and I do not think any of us will be around by the time something better comes along.;)
If it ever does in the touchy-feely world the liberals are trying to build.

Actually John, my disappointment is that this info has been available for several years, but Sken didn't manage to up-date his reference to it.

No one can take anything away from Skennerton's work in this field, it's simply incomparable.

All credible enfield subject based authors HAVE TO refer to his research.

I'd love a copy of this book, but $100.00 is kinda' rich right now with all my other projects on the go. Might get the folks to pick me up a copy for Xmas.

I sent Skenny two copies of "Without Warning - Canadian Sniper Equipment of the 20th Century" but I guess he chose to not read it, or not believe what he read as it corrected his earlier data in "Lee-Enfield Story". To bad as this does a disservice to the LE collecting community.
Clive

It seems that he rushed some bits rather than check whether gossip was just that or indeed facts.

Lee Enfield Story By Skennerton

I guess if Ian got every thing correct in this issue he wouldn't have anything to put in future books.
I received his latest book and I have three Lee-Enfield books by him. I do believe that not everything in books are written in stone.
Firearms books should be used as a guide.
Who corrects these books when they are written? I guess books are like the internet anyone can write what they want.
Now that I know about the book Without Warning - Canadian Sniper Equipment I want a copy.
Where can I get an autographed copy of Without Warning?
