Hey all
Looking at getting a Norinco CQ-a. I don't know much about These! I am usually
A shotgun or 22lr guy! But they look like fun.
They come in 223 or 5.56 what is the difference? Or advantage of one or the other?
Thanks

Get a Smith and Wesson or Ruger anything but Norinco, had to replace most everything on mine about to get a real one!

You mean anything but an NEA/BCL?

But I’d agree with the sentiment. Back in the day our options were Norinco and then the next would have being 1400 dollar mark.
Nowadays, there’s literally no reason anyone should buy Norinco with the options available.

They are chambered in 5.56mm. I believe the newer imported ones say .223 on them for export/import reasons but are actually chambered in 5.56mm.

Here is all the information you could want on the topic...

Hi All.

I’m actually in this boat now....the site says 556/223 CQ-A, however the barrel is marked .223. Has this claim been confirmed?

Paranoid now for some reason.

Thanks

Some manufacturers only mark .223, but are fine with 5.56 (CZ for example stamps 223, but says "All of our .223s will happily eat 5.56. Since our factory is in Europe, we build everything to CIP spec, which doesn’t differentiate between the two cartridges and just has the higher pressure as its standard.")

That being said, unless the manufacturer says that 5.56 is fine, stick to .223.

The Norinco ARs are all fine with 5.56 or .223

Having said that; Buy an American made AR instead.

S&W or DPMS are both solid choices. Same price as a Nork.

Love my DPMS. Spent a few bucks on Magpul furniture and a Holosun 406a, and it's exactly how I want it.

Norinco CQ-A are only made with 556 CHAMBERS.

Barrel can be stamped 223 but the chamber will determine.
It'S for export reasons I bet... looks less scary... ;)

I recently purchased a CQ-A from gotenda. It a great rifle. I've fired 100 rounds so far an it works perfectly and it's accurate. My 5 round groups are hovering around 2.5 moa with 55 grain FMJ campro bullets.
I've had a m&p15 before. It looked nicer but both rifle perform equally in my experience.

own a CQa 10.5 and a Armalite M15A2 - the CQ has a better trigger and has less body wobble (and ambidextrous everything). Other than the SA bcg you would be hard pressed to tell the difference inside if you hid the trademarks.

That's interesting. I'm new to the AR scene and have been an avid pistol guy, so I'm actually not sure out the trigger in my CQ-A. I would be interested to compare someday, but totally happy right now after years of wanting one.
