Ruger 57 Pistol

Was just about to post about this.

Looks nice to me, and I've wanted a pistol in 5.7mm for.a while.

Nice to have an option that comes in at a much lower price point.

Anyone know who will be importing these?

Agreed. I've almost gone for a Five-seveN to go with my PS90 a few times but the price has always kept from making the leap—this is more palatable. I like the fibre optic from sight, plus the fact that it's optic-ready (well, almost, it looks like you need to buy an adapter plate). I wonder if it's blowback like the Five-seven? Not that it really counts but this might be Ruger's first centrefire semi-auto that actually looks good, too.

The Five-Seven isn't blowback. It uses a neat little lever system to delay unlocking and Ruger seems to have copied that bit as well. Most people also don't realize that it uses a shrouded hammer, not a striker.
Very smart move on Ruger's part.

Thanks for the clarification on the Five-Seven...I guess if it was a blowback pistol it’d need a super hefty slide (or a stout recoil spring!) :). That’s neat that it has a shrouded hammer, not a striker. The H&K P9S has a similar arrangement.

The five-seven is wildly overpriced. This will likely sell like crazy. I know I'm interested, I have owned a few five-seven but always sold them to use the cash for something else.

Shrouded hammers used to be a lot more common. I'd LOVE to get my hands on a Colt 1903 "Hammerless", for instance, but they're unfortunately all prohib (All by barrel length and then some for being chambered in .32 ACP on top of that).
