Steam cleaning and carding

So since I'm in recovery mode for another couple weeks I have enough time on my hands to get into trouble. I was watching the youtube video by C and R arsenal and this one caught my attention.

I was thinking about steaming and carding a beat up cooey 600 see if I can make the old girl look better. Anyone have a good source for a stainless steel wire wheel? Anyone ever try thos sort of thing?
 
you can use steel wood - just boil it or soak in acetone to get rid of the oils. I actually found some small fine brushes in Home Depot that the wires were fine enough for carding. (score) Don't use brass.

I don't like the wheels mostly because they throw crap everywhere - not necessary IMO.

I've had those little wires in the wheel come flying out like little spears. Sure fire way to take your eye out. Even with your safety squint.

A full face shield is a good idea. Many years back I was wire wheeling some some cast iron heat registers while wearing safety glasses. When I washed my face afterwards, it stung and that's when I noticed several wires had stuck into my forehead.

Haha ... yes, getting impaled with tiny spears is never fun....

Wheels are too aggressive for express bluing... some steel wool and a fine brush gives more control over how much you are removing.
 
Sorry, no - I literally (by literally I mean figuratively) tripped over them in the paint aisle ... was by all the abrasives, steel wool and such. 3 wooden handled brushes in a little bag, one brass, one plastic and one steel bristled. I bought 3 bags I think.
