Here we go ...

I've been, and always will be a 1911 fan. Colts mostly and even Norinco 1911's (In some cases the Norincos were more dependable than the colts).

I've been converted over to Sig P220 because of the DA/SA and they are a real improvement. The Elite series of sig are even more so with SRT and familiar 22X operation. I've never been interested in a DAO or striker fired 45ACP.

I am looking at SAO Sig P220 in 45.

However I wanted to reach out and ask if there are other Models that would fit this niche. DA/SA or SAO.
HKUSP users? FN?
 
P220 in all variants, HK USP series or HK45, FN FNX or CZ97 would be my choices in DA/SA or SAO triggers.

Then there’s .45 acp revolvers in both DA/SA and SAO...
 
I've never shot a CZ 97, but I've thought about buying one a couple times. The CZ 75's I've tried were all really nice guns though, so I can't see why the 97 would be any different in that regard.

I'm surprised in this thread of dependable .45's nobody has mentioned the HK Mark 23...

For shame.

Though the USP Expert or Elite would be slick as hell.
 
Love my FNX .45 Tactical.
SA/DA ambidextrous decocker and slide release. Comes with 3 mags, 6 back straps,3 or 4 RMR mounting plates for different brands.
Upper assembly is stainless steel.Barrel is stainless steel. Suppressor height tritium night sights, threaded barrel for suppressor or compensator. Lower mounting rail.
Double stacked mags that will hold 15rds if the law is changed.

The MK 23 served for basis of all USP variants that followed in the late 90’s. So stating the USP series above de facto included the MK 23, wouldn’t you agree? ;)
 
I've shot quite a few of the guns mentioned and owned a few. I like the HK 45, but the two .45s I own....a Sig P220 Equinox (love the front sight, and it looks good, but replaced the slippery stocks with aluminum), and a P220 SS Elite (with G10s on it now). I can honestly say that I do not recall ever having a single issue with feeding, ejecting, jamming, ever, with either of them. That's after a good few thousand rounds. I do like my Sigs.....They are top row center and right.

My hk45c, 1911"s and sig are flawless but I never get why alot of people say the 1911 has reliability issues. ...never had a real issue besides magazine. A round jamming is usually my fault since I didnt seat the round properly in the magazine or my mag spring is worn.
 
The 1911 has been built and copied by so many different factories that it covers the range from the finest custom pistols on the planet to the cheapest fly-by-night junk, so it's awfully hard to make generalizations about its quality. But it's a sound design that's been studied and tweaked and tuned a lot in over a century. I'd certainly recommend it, but caveat emptor.

The others have the advantage that they came from a single factory, so it's far more likely that if someone says how for example his P220 works, it's far more likely that this would be equally true of a P220 that you pick up.
 
Dont discount striker fired guns till you try em! No external hammer to get caught in clothing, by someones hand, or if it gets dropped in dirt ect if you end up needing that '100% reliable' deal

Oh now how about this question. Wich .45 gun would take say +p+ type loads so we can bring it out of cap and ball velocities??
