So folks, a fun Friday musing.

What's your favourite repeating shotgun?

Is it a pump? Is it a semi?

Are you old skool with a Winchester Model 12 or Ithaca 37? Or do you think a modern BPS or Supernova is where it's at?

Are the latest Maxus or Superblack Eagle the best iteration of the self loader or can nothing beat an Auto 5 or a properly built 1100?

Personally I'm usually a pump man myself owning a Winchester Model 12 heavy duck, a 12g BPS and a 12g Benelli Supernova

Don't even own a semi-auto...

Ok I'll stand up for a beating....3Macs1 will jump all over me for posting anything derogatory about his beloved Remingtons.....I like both semi's and pumps though I no longer own a pump. When I did own pumps, through trial and error I came to like the Model 12 best of all. As for semi's the reliability and durability of the original A-5 was second to none though they pointed and swung like a 2 x4 wall stud. In gas guns although I preferred the SX1 an 1100 pointed and swung nicer even though they were (are) a big pos. I don't own any of the old school pumps and autos any longer, I sold my last one off this past spring. Heck I don't even own a 12ga any more except for my trap gun. Nowadays I'm shooting 20ga and use either my SX3 or Citori XS Skeet. The fit and finish on the SX3 is crude compared to yesteryears guns but it works well and digests target loads on up to magnum hunting loads without having to swap rings around or change springs, barrels, etc like years ago so for that reason I would rate todays autos as better value for the $.

See Spank you have 3macs1 all wrong.:) Remingtons is just a small number of what I love and own in semi and pump shotguns and yes I have down sized my others guns big time to less than 10 in the past 15 years but NOT shotguns and still have examples of the following . I may have missed a few types but don't think

Pump & Semi Shotguns have always been my thing and I started hording them in the mid 60's .Selling nothing
I hate parting with them. Rifles and handguns was easy for me to sell off which I did but just cannot get my head around giving up my shotguns
Getting too old my friend :( I know to keep them BUT still too hard to give them up right now

I have really no favorite in semi & pump shotguns and each has a place in my heart

In pumps off the top of my head I still own

PUMPS

870 wingmaster and express
Ithaca model 37
Model 31
High Standard
Model 12 Winchester
Model 12 Browning
BPS
Akkar
Weatherby
Mossy 500

Semi

Remington 1148
1100
1187
SP-10
Ithaca mag 10
Browning gold 12 &10
A5
Maxus
Super x1, X2 and X3
A400
Franchi
Weatherby

All I can think of and shotguns make up 90% of what I have left in guns now
If I had to pick just one of each as far as the best ever made IMO
It would be the remington model 31 with the winchester model 12 a close second for pump
Semi would be the winchester super x1 with the gold browning a close second
Cheers

To add the ones I bought and hated so moved them on
Mossy 835
Mossy 535
Remington Versamax
Mossy 9200
Model 88
Supernova

Ok, I'll bite.
I don't really like pump guns and semi's in general. I've had 870's, model 12's Model 37's and a Benelli Nova and all of those for the most part have gone away except an M12 Trap that I like shooting singles with and a couple of others. I just never really got used to shuffling the slide's I guess. Semi's, I've had a few of those as well but I only have a couple left as the rest have all gone away like the pumps did. My favorite semi auto and one of the semi's I've kept and is a Beretta A303 in very nice condition, one of the sweetest semi's ever made! I had some auto 5's over the years and I can't even stand the thought of owning one of them these days because as Spank says, they swing like a 2x4. Other than that all of my repeaters these days only hold two shells and they all have two barrels!

It is funny isn't it. It seems guys are one or the other I find
I have a couple two barrels only because they were my grandfathers and IMO going to grow in value which they did like the model 21 but very few and never do I grab one to hunt or shoot
Rare to find a guy who loves both it seems
Cheers

I have nothing to compare it to but I really enjoyed shooting my new Beretta 1301 competition the other night at the range with slugs. Everyone else did too with a few "got to get me one of those" moments.

Having owned one for 40+ years, that's a fair assessment. Sometimes would become a single shot then would just stick a finger in and bend that tempered paper clip back on to the sheet metal carrier release and be back in business. Don't let it slam on your finger though.
I guess since my son hasn't returned my 1100 then my one and only repeater out of 20+ (rookie, yeah I know) shotguns is a Browning A-bolt 12 ga. with rifled barrel topped with a Leupold low mag variable. That action is slick as ... well, could be described with any very slick simile you can imagine..

Pump shotguns dont do it for me....never had.

Semi's on the other hand are a personal favorite of mine for field and clay use. Of all the guns I currently own and have owned in the past, my favorites are

Browning Silver
Franchi 48
Mossberg 935

I also really liked the Browning Maxus I had, but I definitely prefer the Silver over the Maxus

This has been my experience, too.

Personally, my tastes are heavily skewed toward double guns. I have no use for semis whatsoever and own none (have owned some in the past, but never liked any of them). I am a huge fan of John Browning's Winchester 1897 (the model 12 is equally good, but I prefer open hammers). It helps that I've accumulated a lifetime of experience with the model and can fix anything that might wear out or break. This affinity is also due to the model 1897 being the first repeater I owned, so cycling the action has become intuitive and I shoot well with them. As a result, I own several 1897's and they are my only repeaters (defined here as offering 3 or more shots).

I take 1897's out hunting a few times every season, but the vast majority of my hunting is with side by sides (always with double triggers). In competition, I use only purpose-built U/O's (always with single triggers).

Like 3macs1, I don't have the same weakness for rifles and handguns as I do for shotguns. I own some truly amazing handguns, but they tend to be safe queens. I own only 3 rifles and one is an heirloom. 95% of my time and funds go into shotguns and the 1897's are the only repeaters (by the 3-shot or better definition).

Winchester Model 12 Target Guns , i.e., with factory vent ribs
Reminton 870 Wingmasters, particularly the TC's
Super-X1 Trap or Skeet guns
Remington Model 58 Skeet gun
Beretta 391 Parallel Target

I prefer sxs but im trying to get into ou more just because theres a few id like to own
I guess im one of the odd guys. I use and like sxs and pumps with a couple beretta semis tossed in. Only have one ou right now.
Actually its almost a fair break down of sxs vs pump vs semi if you look at the 24 shotguns i own in 10 and 12ga
