I’d like to acquire a short barrelled upper for my AR. Presently, I’m running a colt 6921 14.5” upper and I’m looking for something shorter.

I’m debating between a colt commando or a Daniel Defence MK18.

Any pros or cons I need to know about either ?

They will be used on an upgraded colt M4 lower (geissele trigger, raptor charging handle & colt FA BCG)

They’re both equally comparable, although frankly I’d go with the Colt just for the sake of “everybody has a MK18” plus I’ve always had AR-OCD and mismatching receivers have me heart palpitations.

Personally I'd sell the Colt M4 lower and buy an 11.6" Colt Canada MRR, or keep your lower and buy an 11.6" MRR and sell that lower or look for an 11.6 MRR upper on the EE. I'm sure you get the point :)

I have all the uppers you're interested in and my favorite is the MRR by far. Good balance, better barrel then both, bomb proof upper, M-lok, modular, better ballistics as opposed to the 10.3" etc.

What’s the difference between the M4 & MRR loser ?

I always assumed they were practically the same. Just different barrels and hand guards on the upper. But not much different on the lower side. Or am I off ?

The lowers all started off from forgings supplied by the same foundry, milled with CNC machines running the same programming codes, so yeah they are essentially the same.

They are pretty close to the same other then a couple small details that Colt Canada incorporates into a complete lower that Colt Defense doesn't do. Operationally they will do the same though. I mentioned selling your Colt M4 lower only because you don't see many 11.6" IUR uppers for sale lately and vendors recently received some complete 11.6" MRR Carbines.

I'm with you so far as shorties go. Also like the Colt Canada 11-ish-inch CQB uppers if you can find one, and the 10-ish-inch SAS uppers. Any of those three would be good choices over the DD or Colt Commando IMHO, but I'm a bit of a Colt Canada fanatic. My Colt USA guns are long gone.

The colt commando spares you about 2000psi of muzzle blast while giving you about 75 fps of velocity. The HK416 wasn't made to solve ar-15 issues, it was made to solve mk18 problems. Plus the commando comes with a lighter barrel. Onces lead to pounds LOL

If you don't plan on attaching a sound suppressor, I recommend the 11.5" Commando. The extra barrel length past the gas port makes it more reliable with a wide variety of ammo. Most commercial 10.3" barrels have a larger than MILSPEC gas port diameter to accomplish the same thing (reliability with weak commercial ammo).

For suppressed use the MK18 is the way to go (with smaller MILSPEC gas port). Sound suppressors add significant length, so the 1.2" difference is helpful, and there's no lack of pressure with a can attached.

Sounds supressor are a non-issue here unfortunatly...

OP: I'd go with the Colt Commando as well given the choices.
