If you think it is a Ruger 10/22, think again. It is a Remington 597 target rifle, called the Yellowjacket. Has very good balance, quite comfortable. As soon as my goodies arrive from the USA it will hit the range. I have a Volquartsen target hammer, exact edge extractor and a scope rail coming. Trigger is better on this rifle than my older 597LSS, but still, it is getting the Volquartsen treatment. Assuming it shoots good I might be upgrading my 597LSS to this style of stock, albeit in pepper laminate. The stock is quite comfy! As soon as my parts arrive I will take it out and test it with many diff. kinds of ammo and see what it prefers. My LSS model seems to LOVE the Remington Subsonics, also shoots the CCI Minimag HP quite well. When I have it dialed in I will post some results at 50 meters... should be in the next 2 weeks or so. The wood to metal fit is better on the Yellowjacket and the barrel is truly free floated. Remington also has done away with the silly j-lock, they now include a gunlock. It is not quite as smooth as the LSS i have , but that rifle has 6000+ rounds through it. Right now I am pretty happy with my purchase, still kind of wondering what I was thinking as the rifle is a bit extreme looking... it is SOOOOOO damn comfy though! Sorry for coming across rather disjointed, its been a long week and I am quite tired...

Now that is a neat looking rig! I think I'd choose a different color than yellow, and for god's sake, don't tell me it comes in pink, my wife will want one... ha ha ha

Cheers
Jay

No choice on the color Jay... But you can get her a 597 and order an aftermarket stock exactly like this from Boyd's and it is also offered in a purple/pink laminate for the 597... :)

Reminds me of a "Dewalt AR15." Looks pretty sweet!

Its it me, or does the "swoop" in the comb of the stock look uncomfortable? Odd sort of cheek-weld.

Hows it feel up on the shoulder Dar? Got a scope on it yet?

i saw one of those at the saskatoon wss last week. it definitely was a unique gun, not only in colour but the shape of the stock too. hope it shoots well.

Feels great on the shoulder, that is what sold me. I am now considering putting the same style of stock on my other 597... Have not got optics for it yet, still deciding what I want to scope it with. I have a Leupold M8AO 8x40 on my TOZ78 and am very happy with it. I might go the same route with the Yellowjacket, or perhaps go with a VariX III rimfire scope, I believe it is a 3-9AO from leupold. Cheekweld is amazing, the stock looks clunky but just feels natural.

I could deal with the colour, but I don't care for the cutout on the stock.

What's the premium over a regular 597??

Cutout works to balance the rifle perfectly over the pistol grip. Can be easily fired one handed and should be devastating on gopher. Premium over the iron sighted stainless laminated 597 is 180 bucks. It cost me 579 bucks...

I'd have ran faster and tried to lose it in an alley...

I am not a fast runner...

None of my guns are what someone would call pretty... but this one takes the cake. It really stands out in the vault! It makes my bubba'd k98 feel better as the other guns have stopped teasing it now as they have a more obvious gun to torment! :D
