what are the cartridges that have been forgotten but are still worth remembering?

6.5x53R i have a long lee chambered in it. Pretty cool round really

I have a stevens 200 in 284 win, that really is an awesome small 7mm. I want a big one now. See if i can push the same 180gr bullet up past 3000fps

I am inclined to use some of those so-called forgotten chamberings.
Right now, in my gunsafes, are the following:

225 Winchester
220 Swift
6mm Remington
7x57 [x2]
300 Savage
308 Norma Magnum [x3]
8mm Rem Mag
38-55 Winchester

Dave.

7.65x53 Mauser......Very similar to the 308 in power but came out in 1889.

Winchester used to make the model 54 chambered in that cartridge.

Yep. At least I think "yep", if that is the one aka 7.65 Argentine; 7.65 Belgian, 7,65 Mauser... I happen to own two rifles chambered for that - one built by Mauser, originally in that cartridge, and the other is a "put together". Nearly the first cartridge invented by the Mauser brothers - very close to a 308 Win case throwing .303 British diameter and weight bullets. Makes one wonder why the 7.62x51/308 Win got "invented" and who got paid how much to "invent" it...

Pretty short arse neck on it...doesn't exactly grasp the bullet massively. I had 3, down to 1 now.

Meh, most listed here are well worth being forgotten, so I will nominate the 30-30. Who under the age of 85 buys 30-30 any more? Yet its a sweet little round thats quite good.

Funny in the crazy posting here no one was touting the 30carb or 7X57. Try finding much ammo for either these days. Let alone SPs for the 30carb.

8mm rem mag
I like your thinking, but still think it can be forgotten, but a sentimental favourite. Wish someone still sold them.

30 Remington and 303 Savage. Both fun very capable cartridges and why in the case of the 30 Remington would you not like a rimless 30/30.

45-90. 45-120

Just out of curiosity- why would you want either of those, unless you are loading blackpowder or a substitute, when you could load the 45-70 to levels that exceed what the action can take? BTW, I took several bears with a Sharps 45-110 (Quigley), loaded with Pyrodex.

They are fun cartridges to shoot and great on game. Like saying why not a 30-06. It’s great to have choices.

Other than nostalgia, why would someone acquire a NEW rifle in 44-40 or 300 Savage when they have been superceded by the 44 Rem Mag and 308 Win?
