what are the cartridges that have been forgotten but are still worth remembering?

458x2inch American. Yes a wildcat.
But you can scrounge your brass from everybody's discarded 7mm Remington Magnum, then convert it via saw and file.
Powder & bullets plentiful with healthy 45-70 market.
Yellowknife to Churchill, complete security blanket.

22 short

No current reason for it to exist. Even the Quiet 22 long rifle is better if you don't want to annoy the neighbours.

However brings back lots of good memories growing up on the farm.

I find the 22 short a tad bit quieter than the "Quiet-22" segmented HP LR. I have both, and both works as intended. I no longer own PAL rated pellet rifles.

10.75x68 always seemed intriguing, apparently not a favourite in Africa because of bullets designed for hunting lighter game? Seems like it would be a good “ heavy” round for Canada.

I bet the 9x57 would be an absolute ripper with modern powders and a 358 bore. Seems like it was pretty popular back in the day

8x51 Mauser was basically a 308 but I don’t think it was ever able to hit similar velocities

Am I wrong if I declare the 280 Ross an unbelted 7mm magnum case? Reminds me of the soon to be most popular cartridge in the world; the 7 PRC

the 10.75x68 lacked a good bullet and had issues with penetration many loved this caliber for lion but nothing a 9.3x62 can do especially with the new 320 grains bullets.

Why not for brown bear, red deer, wisent and wild boars? All available for the Germanic users.

I know Mauser Oberndorf made them; surely others did too. I’ve seen 10.75x57 and 63 online too. Not really sure how popular it was in Europe.

we had one at the camp in car made from a mas 36 and we never used it for 2 reasons: lack of ammo and of course the boss did not trust it and had bad experiences in the past.

Would be too cool to have a nice MAS sporter in a weird caliber. 2 piece stocks are coming back, look at the new SAKO :dancingbanana:

I think woodleigh makes bullets just for it.

People are always singing the praises of 325 leverevolution 45/70 at 2000 FPS. I’d rather have a Mauser slinging 350’s at 2200. Who knows where modern powders could take it? Maybe finally show the damn 9.3x62 crowd

for sure quality of the powder and great bullets may make a difference. i doubt everybody is praising the newer 250 grains in 45/70. nothing needs to be shown to the crowd of 9.3x62 sorry for that ...

look up wgat john taylor about your great caliber ...

Times 2 on the 35 Winchester. An excellent woods round for anything especially moose. With a good 250 grain roundnose this one will wade a lot of meat. Bought one from the original owner here in rural NB. The fella was approaching 90 years old. When I left with the rifle he told me, " Be careful with that 35, young fella(I'm 63) if you're out deer huntin' and see Big Ears she's liable to go inta automatic and Big Ears will be down kicking before you can stop it." HAHA

I've often pondered why Winchester didn't manufacture the 94 AE with a 24 inch barrels and shorter magazine tubes. Maybe it was the decision makers at the production plant in Japan that didn't consider this option as one that would elevate these lever rifles into an improved configuration. It would be great if their calibers were done as follows: 7-30 Waters, 30-30; 32 Special; 307; 356; and 375.

i may add the 9.3x62 with 320 grains as the same sectional density of the 500 grains of the .458 or .341 ... while the 347 grains is only at .277 the equivalent of 25o grains 9.3

Been wanting a 9.3x62 for eons... may pull the trigger one day. I really want a Sako Bavarian Carbine chambered in this fine cartridge, but I pretty much blew my next 6-months budget on several impulse purchases. :)
