Hi all,

I want to to buy a rifle for deer, elk and (possibly) Moose. I am thinking about 300 win mag or WSM in either Sako 85, Benelli R1 or Weathrby. I already have a great scope (over $2200) and with a scope more expensive then gun, I just need opinion from people who have shot these guns. I want to know which one would be the most accurate and reliable.

edit: I will be hunting in Alberta.

Thanks a bunch:)

All three of those are accurate and reliable. Just like a $2200 scope it will perform reliably. I haven't had the opportunity to fire an R1 yet but have thought of buying one a few times since they seem to handle nicely for me.

Well buddy, you will probably get some different answers here, except mine. Here you go...

I think they start around $3500 for a base model but whats that Benelli R1 with comfortect going to set you back??

Personally I hate seeing semi's in the feild as without exception they have always been Remi's in 06 in the hands of men who are'nt safe enough to operate a flash light. Just my experience , oh and go with the Sako.

Get the Bennelli, the rate of fire of the other two might not be fast enough for Ontario hunting:rolleyes:

Allways some snotnose little #### with an ontario comment about semi's...

Miss the special bus this morning?

All three are different, but capable... whichever suits you best...

Its interesting, when I hunted for five years while I was in Ontario, the 3 guys that I would usually hunt with each year, all had semi's.... When I move to Washington DC and hunted in Virginia for 5 years, none of the guys I was hunting with used a semi, same goes for the all the guys I go hunting back with in Sask each year, everyone has a bolt action. No, one uses a semi that I know.... So I would think they are more popular in Ontario.... since I lived there for 5 years and thats what I observed.

Anyways, the Sako's are awesome, the Weatherby's tend to be a little heavy for my liking and since I have not used a R1 yet....

I would go with bolt action and most likely Sako 85, it is proven action very well made and rifles are accurate.

The R1 is special in that it has a 24" 1:11 ROT CRIO barrel that has proven first hand to put 180 grain AccuBonds into a 3 shot group of less than 1/2" at 300 yards. These rifles are on par if not better than factory bolt rifles like the Sako 75's/85's and the Weatherby's. This is where my money would be!

Chilly Willy,
just out of curiosity,
who shot 1/2" at 300 yr, is that factory test or someone else tried?
If this rifle will give me 1/2" at 100yr with my reloads I wouldn't hesitate to buy, not mentioning 300yr !!!! :)
Just have a bit of problem believing 300yr - 1/2" 3 shot group.

Greetings
