Which one? SAKO 85, Benelli Semi R1 or Weatherby

Chilly Willy

Ok, here's the deal. Have someone, anyone, fire ten 3 shot groups with an R1 at 300yards. If one or more of those groups measures 1/2 inch then I'll buy you a new R1 but if it doesn't then you buy me a new Sako 85. Money talks and B.S walks.

I'm sure the R1 is a good rifle but consistent 1/2 inch groups @ 300 yards  - it happened maybe once by accident.

I have no experience w/ the Benelli or even Weatherby but I've been using a Sako 75 for 10 years and plan on getting an 85 soon. Very happy w/ the quality and reliability of Sako. (Anyone know who has the best deal on the 85's? ;) )

The R1 is special in that it has a 24" 1:11 ROT CRIO barrel that has proven first hand to put 180 grain AccuBonds into a 3 shot group of less than 1/2" at 300 yards. These rifles are on par if not better than factory bolt rifles like the Sako 75's/85's and the Weatherby's. This is where my money would be!

Bulls**t.

Chilly Willy,
just out of curiosity,
who shot 1/2" at 300 yr, is that factory test or someone else tried?
If this rifle will give me 1/2" at 100yr with my reloads I wouldn't hesitate to buy, not mentioning 300yr !!!! :)
Just have a bit of problem believing 300yr - 1/2" 3 shot group.

Greetings

This was not a factory or gun rag test. this was shot on an open windy range just south of peterborough.
LOFing L, its allways the same naysayers...

Call bull#### all you want, but there was a few CGN'rs present for this particular rifle shooting with multiple shooters...

Aww, the boltfags cant believe a semi is capable of good accuracy?

Somoene just had an expensive day.

Well guys as DB said this was done by three shooters off a Leadsled with a brand new R1 in 300 WSM last year in September. The rifle was purchased at Accuracy Plus in Peterborough as was the factory ammo (Winchester Supreme 180 grain AccuBonds). Hell, maybe Big Redd still has the target... Call BS all you want...I shot one of the groups and could hardly beleive it my self. How many of you that have negativly commented on my practical experience with this gun have actual shot one or spent any time behind one? THATS WHAT I THOUGHT!

DarrylBD Quoted "Somoene just had an expensive day".

Hey Chilly & Darryl. Does this mean you have accepted my offer for a witnessed R1 accuracy test with R1/Sako 85 rifles up for grabs? I am serious, how about you?

Gladly, are you in southern Ontario?

Actually, even if your not, you pick a CGN member whom you trust to witness this for you...

I'll gladly put my money where my mouth is...

Will you?

Darryl,
just relax Buddy, I still do not believe that hunting semi-auto rifle can even do 1" group with three shots from the bench at 300yr and also there is no reason to flap your mouth like that and call people fags.
And, I am not talking fluke ones, just do it 2x in 10 minutes (6 shots) and you will make me buy this rifle.

Greetings

I accept partial responsibility for where this thread has gone for mentioning a semi-auto and Ontario in the same sentence. I should have known better.

Hi Darryl

Sounds like we might be able to put together an entertaining event. I live in B.C. but expect to be in Ontario in the spring of 2008 and I wouldn't miss this demo for the world, win, lose or draw. Hell we should be able to gather quite a crowd. I have someone in mind who I think we can both trust. He lives in Peterborough and will probably agree to hold our cash and judge the winner. Will explain the scenario to him tomorrow and if he agrees I will give you his name. Stay tuned.

gunster,
keep me updated, I would like to see that myself.
Maybe, maybe some extremely tuned semi rifles can do
1/2MOA at 100yr constantly, but hunting rifle, hmm hard to
believe it. Coming from East Block we had in our army
Dragunov rifle, which was turned to shoot accurate up to 600m,
and still it was a challenge to get 1/2MOA at 100 with 3x.

consistant 1/2" groups at 300 yards, with factory ammo to boot, out of a factory rifle, hell, a factory semi auto...with three different shooters, on a windy range

thats pretty damn good ;)

well s**t, I guess its possible. I once shot a .285" 3 shot group @ 300 meters with a 260 mountain rifle, with a load that would be hard pressed to do any better than 1.25 moa @ 100 meters. Flukes do happen sometimes :) maybe more often than normal when you get three heavyweight internet bulls**tters on the same range at the same time

A suprise, but a fact that it happened none the less...

Just to keep you updated, I tried to contact the Peterborough guy I mentioned but he is out of town until early next week. Will talk with him when he returns and let you know.

Are you agreeable to add the following to our rules of engagement? "The R1 must not fire any of the ten 3 shot groups larger than 3" at 300 yards."
