I had the manager of the LGS ask me a question yesterday. A customer was wanting to shoot cci segmented quiet's in a revolver. The store manager was not sure if the bullet would stay together after passing from the cylinder to the barrel. My opinion would be no problum but I have had zero experiance with segmented ammo. Any one have tried this or heard any stories?

CCI Quiet is pretty slow stuff, even the newer version rated at 835fps from a semi-auto rifle. The segmented cuts aren't even half the length of the bullet. No way lead is going to just peel apart during firing. It's being pushed, not meeting anything but air. Sure it'll spread some depending on whatever it hits AFTER going through the air, but not in the barrel. The rifling will, if anything, squeeze it slightly tighter.

I just took a look a the cci websight, they have page of warnings but no mention of problems with segmented or quiet ammoi.
It looks like quiet is not offered in segmented version. The segmented is offered in a high speed ammo and a barly sub sonic version.
I tried a few of the quiet's in a 10" single shot barrel and was no overly impresed with the nose reduction.

There’s certainly a difference in performance between the Standard and the Segmented quiets though.

(Squirrels weren’t out that day)

When you shoot a squirrel with the segmented quiets you can actually hear a thump or smack type sound. The regular quiets don't do the same. The segmented are a lot faster at dispatching bu do more damage on a body shot.

PS.
GMC403's apple display is an awesome example!!

This ^ photo answers a question I hadn't asked on here yet. lol Namely, do these Segmented bullets even open up at such a low speed. I wasn't convinced they even could, I stand corrected. To the question~I have no idea, but do wonder why anyone would want to shoot this type of ammo from a handgun...unless you needed to use it up, or, it was the only "quiet" stuff you could get when shopping.

Don't you enjoy the challenge of squirrel hunting with a handgun? :d

Vegans around the world are also decrying the horrific posting of these gore-filled kill shots.

I might even EAT squirrels if I could do that! (I've never tried squirrel)

Yeah, a couple of apples lost...but so much knowledge gained. :) I've done the same sort of testing btw, when I was trying the gauge the difference between CCI Blazer...and the same ammo run through my Waltz die. (using large, frozen carrots) They'd come apart with the Blazer fir sure..but the HP version~seemed you couldn't find any pc. bigger than a green pea. lol

One would kind of wounder about that , But the story is the LGS only had the Quiet in segmented in stock. And the local indoor range has 850 max feet per sec rule. The customer a new range member not realizing the fps rule does not apply to .22 rf . was trying to be compliant.I think the store manager put the customer on the right path. But you know how inquisitive minds are. Will it work???

Don’t bother. They’re terrible. Especially done up like hot-wings. In fact, I’ll do you a favor and pop over to get them out of all your hunting spots for you, lest you accidentally eat one.

You’re welcome.
