I checked out M14 medic but he hardly sells his services after listing all the things he doesn't do. 10-12 weeks is also a bit ridiculous. Any other options for a guy with a couple guns to get tuned up? Looking for the standard stuff, shim, Tig index if needed etc...

He is worth the wait

as soon as guys started complaining that quality work took time …… I quit working on their rifles LOL
don't waste your time or money on some back room gunsmith that is "familiar" with the platform (even if he does work out of corlanes)
you want an expert..... or do it yourself.

Corlanes has shown me that they are barely competent at best. I am simply looking for someone with less lead time that can also offer more services. Perhaps it's hopeful but a guy doesn't know until he asks...

casey at tactical ordnance.... probably similar lead times
Nick at Vulcan ….same
Jason at Gunco….. same....

I obviously do all my own M14 work but if I didn't, these are the only 3 in the country that I would send an M14 too if m14medic was too busy or not taking work.

Those are all good choices.

My Corlanes experience was very slow, bad communication, decent work. Lots of phone calls without call backs, I did everything but physically walk in the door. I understand lead times, but taking far longer than planned and not communicating back to me didn’t impress me. Maybe if I was spending several thousand it would have been different.

I don't want to make this about Corlane's but after using them twice I can't say I have any confidence in them for anything important. They can't spot obvious and extremely dangerous issues with common guns so I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

the reality is that there are lots of highly skill gunsmiths in Canada but that does not mean they have intimate knowledge of the m14/M1garand family of rifles and the skills to tune them.
It's not a common skill set to have and it just means you have a much smaller pool of expertise to rely on for quality work.
it is what it is.

there may well be other good m14 smiths out there that I did not mention in my previous post and I did not omit anyone on purpose, I am just not aware of them.

I agree with the m-14 medic doing great work overall, just gotta wait, but he is worth it. I only brought up Corlanes, as the work you had mentioned was “ minor” and you are closet Dawson from bay tree.

I didn't use the word minor at any point. Looking for the usual tune-up. That's fairly labor intensive for someone without all the tools and experience.

Okay, well I also figured with upcoming ban , you might just trying to get some work done “post haste” But yeah I really recommend the m-14 medic, he has done some outstanding work on my exzample, so, if you want to take chance of waiting, he’s worth it....

I spoke with Nick at Vulcan. He seems like a very competent and professional smith so I happily shipped my M-305s off for a makeover. Thanks again everyone for the suggestions.
