Looking at buying an older non MIM M305. Which means many of the ones catching my interest on EE have at least half a decade under their belt and sometimes who knows how many rounds!?

Wondering if i should concern myself with potentially receiving a "worn out" or broke receiver..... is that a thing ? how many rounds do u think a forged norc receivers lifespan would be ?

Tonyben3 on Utube mentions things like safety bridge cracks etc. etc.

theres guys who train on the tube with springfield rifles who have 7k rounds through it without a failure. most people could never come even close to affording to wear out a reciever

IIRC the forged m305 receivers are actually made in Canada so are actually high quality.

this is absolutely false ^^^^

Springfield M1A receiver blanks are , or were in the past, Investment Cast in Quebec, Canada

Canada has never produced a forged M14/M1A receiver …. ever..... anywhere

This is better than the Sten Gun story from WW2, where you throw a Sten into the window of an enemy house and the Sten makes exactly 1 revolution dumping it's 32 rounds, rotating on the wood floor, firing by itself and knocking out all the enemy inside! Lol

There are rifles made in the 50’s and 60’s still in military service.....

I know of 4 or 5 guys, who have rebarreled their M14 pattern rifles more than 5 times, after wearing out their barrels.... approx 3k rounds per barrel...

Does this translate to “longevity” to the Chinese action? I can’t say.... but, I wouldn’t be shy buying a 50yr old rifle with the OEM bbl.

A well maintained rifle, made from forged parts, will give several (Hunan) lifetimes of service...

Remember reading the receiver life of a USGI receiver to be around 400,000 rds,

In all likelihood, no one knows what it would be. The M14 was in front line service with the USA for a very short period, and few other countries ever used it to any extent. There may be theories suggesting what it might be, but the gun never saw enough duty time for any significant amount of data to be collected.

That being said, 400,000 is a lot, I think only Maxim/Vickers type guns ever consistently put in those kinds of numbers. I would think 100,000 to 150,000 is more common for lighter, shoulder fired rifles.

3k rounds isn't great barrel life unless these guys are hardcore shooters/accuracy guys neededing .5MOA or something?
