6ppc with heavies

We have two 6br's and are operating around 2750 with 105 to 107 grain bullets with good brass life shooting to 500 meters. Mine's a .272" no turn neck with .113" free bore. Was shocked to drop a bullet in the neck of a fired case and have it stop on a doe nut. The bullet seats no where near the doe nut.

My 105's seat about like your 95's.

what powder and how much Dwayne?

Varget, Phil loads the famous internet go to load that's 6 tenths over the Berger max. His Borden handles that no problem. That's in a 28" long Krieger .237" bore, 107 Sierra at 2757 fps average.

My barrel is 28" long Krieger 236" bore on a Savage action and the powder had to be reduced to 28.5 grains for bolt operation. I chronographed 105 Berger Hybrids at 2743, 2749, 2749.

If you go to lwgc.ca and scroll until you get to the June 500 meter match results.

is there a reason you let the action limit the capability of the cartridge ?

I didn't have a spare br action around and that action was already on a .308 that shot well at 500, it was already in a long range br stock. And there were Savage factory actioned guns in the 600 yard equipment lists so I decided to give it a try.

And I cheaped out on this project so I could put the money to better defend myself at 100 and 200 against you guys.

When I phoned Krieger to get a recommendation for twist and .236" opposed to .237" he said if shooting Berger's and Sierras to go with .236". I'm thinking that's why it makes the same velocity with 28.5 grains as a .237" barrel does with 30 grains.

I'm going to try VLD's and a 450 primer and see if it shoots better.

6 ppc with 94gr vld will run competitively with the 6 br at 550yrds , I have not compared them any further out than that , 6 br load was 31gr varget 99gr vld 2997fps +/- , no pressure signs and room in the case so could probably go hotter yet.
I like the ppc because its a good place for my short range brass to go when I cycle it out , only complaint is the 308 bolt face can be finicky with ejection with out some work done to it.
