So, I have a question.

Does anyone on here own a Canik pistol? I am looking at Canik or CZ but leaning towards the Canik as a less expensive option. I am looking for some feedback on the Canik, hopefully from someone who may also live in Edmonton. The online reviews are fine but to talk to someone who actually owns and shoots one would of course be so much more informative.

I have had one for a few years, i sold the glock 17 G4, p320 and kept the tp9sf elite. I love mine and would not sell it, you can not go wrong for the price ($560 tax/shipping in at the time)
 
I had one. On paper it seemed awesome. Great trigger, good sights, nice finish, good accuracy... I liked it, but I just didn't love it. I think it felt a little top heavy. When it came to grabbing pistols for range trips it always got left in the safe, so I sold it.
 
I'm not trying to dissuade you from looking at the Canik but a gently used Shadow 1 is a better pistol.
 
I owned a TP9 sf Elite and it’s a very decent pistol, probably just as good as any of the standard striker fired pistols like the M&P or Glock. If you value trigger quality as a priority then I’d say it’s a better choice.

However, it’s not for small hands. The trigger length is about the same as the double action pull of most all steel Da/SA pistols. You can cheat by rotating your grip, but the square end of the receiver above the beaver tail will bash your thumb knuckle when recoiling.

I also found that the square corners at the front of the grip dug into my finger pads, my hands aren’t big enough.

If you wear large sized gloves or bigger then it’ll probably be comfortable.

“Better” is a subjective term. It depends on what he’s using it for and if the extra $250 to $300 is worth it to him. Striker fired pistols are generally more user friendly too.

"Better" is an objective term when comparing a TP9SF to a Shadow, regardless of the intended use. I won't even touch the user friendly thing, that's a ridiculous argument in my opinion.

Using it for target shooting mostly, see what happens in the future. Price is a factor of course, if not I would just buy the CZ. I want to get a reliable gun without the higher costs and the Canik, from what I have read and watched, is the option that appeals to me.

What does a gun weigh? Gun A weighs 5 lbs. Gun B weighs 10 lbs. Thats objective, and based on fact.

Which one is better? The target shooter picks gun B. The hunter picks gun A. Thats subjective and based solely on opinion and the users preferences and priorities.

The reason why I said striker fired pistols are more user friendly than DA/SA guns is because there are no extra safeties (generally), and the trigger pull weight and length is more consistent. It’s just less to worry about, therefore more user friendly. That’s my opinion, yours is probably different, and that’s ok. You’re not wrong and I’m not wrong.
 
I picked up the tp9 elite combat before Christmas... it’s awesome.

I’m saving now to buy a 45acp next. Considering an sti... if I can save that much haha.
 
I have picked up 2 SF Models since Thanksgiving.
I picked up a SC 2 weeks ago and. TP9DA last weekend.
They are a awesome value for the price. I picked up a Zigana K model last week also.
Canik all the way !
 
I never found a problem with the grip, and I have med. size hand, size 9 gloves
CZ and Canik are 2 different type of guns, both good.
The CZ is heaver, I like them both. Price wise, the Canik is a buy
 
I followed them for years very closely. They re a ISO900 company with a lot of history, and their firearms are a small part of what they do . I have owned several of their revolvers, still own a beautiful M66 fantastic guns. About four years ago i picked up a TP9SA, all I can say is WOW !!Incredibly well built, very solid, very accurate and the trigger is too die for. You need to spend close to $1000 for a handgun with that quality of a trigger. I have multiple handguns, like some, love some, but my TP9SA is without a doubt my favorite. Everyone will have their own favorites, like I do mine. GREAT GUN !! IMHO
