Avoiding rim lock jams while loading No 4 Lee Enfield with chargers

In the 50's the DCRA was shooting 303 issue ammo, in chargers. At the Annual Match (Ottawa) there would be 500 shooters there all week. At the end of the day, kids were hired to go along the lines and fill garbage cans with discarded chargers.

Sure wish I had kept a few (cans).

I didn't read all the answers, but just to let you know. The way you described loading the stripper clips was to prevent ammo from moving around in the chargers...and not to prevent any rim lock. To prevent rim locks the round on the top of the previous one should be slightly forward from the one that sits under.

Yes...........................for commercial ammo, I suggest you read the comments re. issued military ball on a charger. I think this whole rim lock "issue" is a non issue, I can see it being problematic with Bren LMG mags, but the rifle (and mil ammo) no problem.

As you say, the original military brass had chamfered rims, which they knew would make them feed better.

(non chamfered) Commercial hunting ammo, not an issue as probably very few used chargers for moose hunting. :)
