Accutrigger or not?

Enables you to 'safely' have a lighter trigger, which is way better than the previous Savage trigger, but still not the crispest trigger out there.

I prefer a factory one stage like a Tikka or a tuned up Remington.
 
I have tried the accutrigger and didn't like it,

I now have 2 savages and both have the old style triggers, you can do a lot of simple adjustments on the old style triggers, just like the accutrigger, but less parts.

I don't like the feal of that little safety trigger and you can jam up the trigger by inadvertently squeezing the main trigger too much before you squeeze the safety trigger.

so put me in the don't like the accutrigger catagory

+1... generally.

But I also have a Savage 10LE .308 with the new accu-trigger & it's not too bad.

Thanks for all the input folks, I really appreciate it. At this point, the rifle on the short list is the Savage 116 FCSS in either 30-06 or .308.

Any comments between those 2 calibres?

308 will do all the same things except really heavy bullets well, and less recoil, also a slightly lighter and more compact rifle.
 
You bet it's good for deer, elk, moose, and varmints too with light fast bullets.

Ballistically, until you get to 175's and up, it really doesn't give up much to a 30-06. And what it gives up is mostly on paper, rather moot for practical hunting.

Plus practice ammo is easy to find and often inexpensive, and as Calum says, accuracy is more important than power. You get accurate with practice, so there you have it...

If I personally had to choose only one rifle, it would be 308 or 30-06, whichever came to me first.

My sis' BF also hunts & was discussing the options with me as well. All good info & I'm 90% sure that I'll be going with the .308. I like the idea of cheap practice ammo as well, as I do like poking holes in paper from time to time. :)

Update... I got the .308, model 11 Savage. A Bushy trophy with the mildot reticle & even splurged on an aftermarket recoil pad. I LOVE it!

Right out of the box, it was within a few inches of the bullseye sighting in at the 50 M mark (my BIL prefers metric for some odd reason... weird). By the third shot, it was perfect for lateral & just where I'd expect it to be at for height at that close range. THANKS for the input folks.
