Toronto International Trap and Skeet

Yeah, here is the nonsense:

"The investment is an important legacy for the sport in Canada, providing the first facility for the country’s top shooting athletes in pistol, rifle and shotgun disciplines.
“The TORONTO 2015 Games are creating a number of important legacy infrastructure investments for Canadian athletes in Ontario,” explained Saäd Rafi, chief executive officer of TO2015.

“For the first time in 20 years, the best shooting athletes in Canada will have a world-class facility that offers much-needed training opportunities in all three disciplines of their sport,” he said. “Canada has produced many champion shooting stars over the years but this investment will take the sport to the next level in our country.”

Again how many of these "top shooting athletes" do they think actually live within driving distance of Cookstown? Do they think all these athletes will get on a plane every weekend from various other provinces. This nonsense makes such little sense you would think the Ontario Liberals cooked it up or something.

"The structures and equipment for pistol, rifle and shotgun at the club will be governed by International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) requirements, as well as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s Range Design and Construction Guidelines. The Chief Firearms Office will also provide guidance on range construction."

Right there is the problem. Too many bureaucrats involved!

We shot the Canadian Int. Skeet championship there between 19-23 of August. There was a note at the club house in regards to the rifle/pistol building. Apparently they have some compliance issues with Range requirements and CFO shut down the facility until corrections made. I understand they are working towards fixing those problems.

I heard a temporary permit was issued specifically for the PanAm games...

Canada is very poor when it comes to facilities for olympic style shooting events. I think there is only two facilities in the whole country that can hold a shotgun world cup, without going through upgrading; one being this place. Rifle and pistol guys suffering the same. I think it is important that this facility is cherished and protected so high performance athletes can practice througout the year, provincial and national championships held on a regular basis...

The PANAM games only shoot the 22 and air gun, so, that is what the facility was built to do. The range now has to be made "safe" to the specs required by the CFO for the larger calibers.

The government spent $6.2 million dollars to build it and it doesn't even meet the Ontario CFO requirements. Now the Pan-Am games executives are walking away with 6 figure bonuses on top of their salaries. I am betting the McGuinty and Wynne governments hand picked a lot of those executives.

Recently went there. The facilities were nice and the members were friendly, but I wasn't sure what to make of the angry little man in charge who rushes around from field to field swearing under his breath

Bahaha....you are talking about Steve. He’s always been like that but if you catch him on a one on one conversation, he’s actually a nice guy. But he sure does have the reputation for yelling and screaming every where he goes.

As for the facilities, its a nice club. My complaint is that is not very organized. Don’t depend on their website as its not always updated. And I would call before going because they have a habit of closing during operating hours making it a wasted trip if you are travelling far

Hahaha! I wondered if someone would name him. I knew instantly when I read this thread who they were describing! LOL

I stopped by about a month ago. Place was a ghost town. Sent an email, no reply. Sent in an application and they said it was received and basically 'stand by.' Haven't heard anything since. Looks like a nice place from outside at least

He’s been there forever. I probably shouldn't have said his name, but as I mentioned, he’s a very nice guy when you have a conversation with him. Sometimes the crown TITS attracts is worthy of being yelled at. And some of the kids working there seem half baked, which would really frustrate me. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if his hearing is gone and may not be fully aware how loud he actually is.

Its a three month wait to have your application reviewed. I joined Oshawa instead

LOL! Experienced that too. Showed up first thing in the morning, range sign said "closed" but shooting could be heard so we pulled in. After our reading abilities were questioned, we were advised to go home as the place would be closing down after the current squad finished their round. So we left to tend to some other things, only to pass by an hour later to find the place open after all f:P:2:

Well if Oshawa Trap and Skeet is local enough, you may want to consider becoming a member there. The club is very well organized and is opened Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday. The membership timeframe has closed for the year but it will reopen in January. In any event, you don't need to be a member to shoot clays. They have trap, skeet, five stand and sporting clays. The rifle and handgun range is reserved for members only. Its a first class facility as far as Im concerned

I'm a member of and 5 minutes away from Barrie District Hunters & Anglers where we have 5-stand. I do however occasionally venture elsewhere for a trap or skeet fix.
