What would your recommendation be for a scope on a No4Mk1 that, while modern would look at home on this rifle? I like the look of the No.32 scope, but as they are rare and expensive in this country I would prefer something ''off the shelf''.

I have and have seen others wearing Weaver 2.5 and 3 power scopes - straight tube at front - no Objective bell. Parker Hale RAHS.3 rings with Parker Hale #20 and #21 bases were made for that set-up - the higher rings allow the battle sight aperture to remain on the #21 base, should you want to swap back to irons by removing the scope. Obviously not "modern" per se, but more modern and more readily available/ more affordable than are the No. 32's, and their base (pads) / ring set-up.

I have a 4-12x40 Nikon on my no4 sporter, it’s a bit on the long side for me but it works well. I’m going to swap in a 2-7x32 or 2.5-10x40, both are a bit shorter in length. I already have a 2-7x32 on a slug gun so it should work well on my no.4, 32mm objective looks just right to me.

It may be an option to wait awhile for the new ITAR rules to take effect. Presently, Numrich doesn't ship their replica No32 scope outside of the US without an export licence but with the new ITAR rules that will likely change. If you're not in a hurry, I would wait another 6 months or so before giving up on getting the proper scope.https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/1249080

I'm encouraged that there seem to be at least two no-drill scope mounts for the Enfield, for those who wish to shoot irons or scope, depending on the day, and don't want to wreck their rifle.
