Anybody reaming M14 flash hiders to NM spec?

The SAI flash suppressors sold on brownells are already reamed out NM spec. If its a USGI suppressor you have it would probably be best to not ream it as GI parts are getting fewer and fewer.

This can be ordered no fuss no muss to my door?

The Army found an improvement in accuracy using M118 ammunition when the FH was modified using a tapered reamer to open up the front end. I don’t believe it was actual bullet strikes per se, but some sort of disturbance of the bullets flight on exit of the barrel that was reduced by this operation.

Bullet strikes, harmonics... pre-swirl from the 2.5 axial stage compressor valve....

If it makes you feel good, your mind is clear and you put up better groups 😊

My NRA High Power Coach explained to me that water would sit/park on the bottom tine of the flash suppressor while one was competing (I carried an FNC1A1 overseas, not an M14) and not necessarily in RVN Combat. Bullet strikes were common when that 147 gr. Ball round would strike the water on it’s exit out of the barrel.

Okay, back to the M14... after all, we are yakking about Battle Rifles.....

So the US Armourers would ream out that USGI flash suppressor to 0.406” or using a #7 tapered pin reamer (and that’s apparently the spec used).

I have one, but with the finite number of USGI flash suppressors running around (read: IDF Parts Kits from Wolverine) I’m reluctant to ream any USGI FS unit out. Simplest and easiest to order a NM reamed already Flash suppressor from Brownells. No kidding. Done right at the factory.

The Kommunist Zhinese may have dropped the ball with SARS back in 2003, but they got the widened/reamed/opened up Flash suppressors right with the Norinco-Plinko rigs.... LOL

Cheers:

That’s a great picture.

I read about the collection of rain in the bottom tine before, and that the military rifle teams would often place a cover over the flash suppressors while waiting on the firing line if it was raining.

Got one off a fellow gunnuter.

Super nice fella and we traded a Nm for a usgi, win win!

Thanks everyone, Great community we have!
