My first Grouse Report!

Ok guys this crap has to stop in my thread... We're not children here... MNR's phone number is Toll Free so you can call at no cost anywhere in Ontario.

I spoke with the MNR... During rifle season for any game (Deer, Moose, Bear etc) you MUST wear blaze orange. HOWEVER, the MNR officer advised me that waterfoul hunters that are hunting from a boat NEVER need to wear blaze orange BUT if they are hunting from land then they NEED blaze orange during the rifle seasons.... When no rifle seasons are open anyone can wear full camo or a pink freaking tutu in the woods if they like.

You know what they say about opinions right?

Just make the call to the MNR and ask....

A freakin men bud!

I hate it when someone tries telling me I don't know what I am talking about!

I as well called the MNR today, and got the EXACT same line you got ;)

northwoodslivin,

Sounds good bro, I may just take you up on that offer when my Jeep's motor is finished being rebuilt. Where in Northeastern are we talking?

Hey,

I am near Kirkland Lake. About 6 1/2 hours from Toronto. A way's yes. But maybe you can stay a while and get yourself a calf tag and maybe we can go together. Who knows. Yes it is a drive, but there is A LOT of bush up here :)

The offer is there if your interested ;)

Congrats on the grouse Robin, just got my hunting license today and grouse is the first thing i want to go out for.
Andre

congrats robinhood

not to piss on your thread any but regs or no regs, if there is a big game gun season Im wearing orange no matter what I hunt, just a precausion, too many gun ho idiots in the woods and it doesnt take much for an accident

I've followed this thread for so long that you've really peaked my curiosity. From as far as I can tell, the blaze orange requirement only applies to moose and deer seasons, which in the area that John and I hunted totals less than three weeks of the year. If bear were added to the mix, we'd have to use blaze orange from the beginning of September up to mid-November.

Perhaps things are different a few hours further North, where bear hunting is a big deal, but the area in question was at the southernmost edge of bear country, and I'd be very surprised if there's anyone targeting them there. Almost nobody that I know in the area except for myself (most of the time) hunts small game wearing blaze orange. Especially since lots of people target beaver pond ducks and would hate to have to wear it.

I'll always follow the law and err on the side of safety, but lets not forget that there's lots of places in North America, Europe and elsewhere with otherwise very stringent game laws that don't require blaze orange.

Cheers,

Frank

I'll post the response from the MNR.
