AR-15 Soft Gun Case Recommendation

Def. bag
a container made of flexible material with an opening, used for carrying things.

My interpretation is the rules are a lockable rigid container. You may choose to interpret it in a different manner you are not incorrect, however I really do not trust the interpretation abilities of the popo on the way home from the range, better to be covered on all angles.... lol!
 
Sandro I understand what you're saying, and yes, an actual case is likely safer for the reason you explained, but I use the Colonel Mustard 2-gun bag for my AR & shotgun and TSA lock the zippers - never had an issue or even a weird look from anyone while uncasing.

For the OP's purposes, he has an NR so restricted regulations are moot. It all depends on how much protection you want the gun to have versus the mobility and price. But if you want to go the bag route, I find the CM bag to be perfectly fine for transport and pretty durable for throwing around!

If you cant open or break that bag open with your bare hands you will be fine IMO...I personally use expensive Pelican cases for my restricted firearms, and soft cases for my non restricted. The Pelican cases are pretty damn strong, but guess what I or anyone could cut the locks off in 30 seconds with a grinder or bolt cutters if they wanted too, the holes for the locks are only so big not allowing me to even use big locks that I would consider actual security. So really what does it matter what the case is made of, as there is no laws stating how big or how strong the locks on them have to be. If someone wanted to get into them, and have access to basic tools from a hardware store they can get in pretty easily...

For NR I use 2 different 5.11 bags because one holds 2 rifles, and both have backpack type shoulder straps so you can wear them like a backpack and they are rectangular in shape, so aren't so obvious as gun cases

Recently at a trip to the range, I saw a guy with a regular guitar case filled with a few guns, reminded me of this scene from Desperado LOL

Yes you are correct.... you can plea your argument to the rookie cop as he hauls your ar15 to the station. I prefer to lock my rigs in a rigid case, and be on my way. Common sense is not something that can be taught, some officers are more square than others, you will have to explain your reasoning to the officer. either way have fun with that. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure Comes to mind right now.

Your idea of an ounce of prevention is one thing and you’re welcome to take whatever steps you feel are necessary to keep you safe from rookie cops. But it is just wrong for you to state categorically that AR15s must be transported in rigid cases. Our laws are confusing enough without people adding their own personal extras to them.
 
Interpretation of the said laws. Untill there is a need for that interpretation to happen I’m sure that this thread can be put to rest until a later date when the op decides to argue his point with the powers that be, and f’s it up for the rest of us and we’ll have to put everything in a rigid box....

What does that video about mags have to do with transport/storage case? That cop first of all is a complete moron spewing misinformation

Although it is kinda funny that his rifle was in soft case in the video, and there was no problem with the case. Just the mags and for the same reason, the cop doesn't even know the law he is trying to enforce

I personally cant and won't limit my legal right to do something just because not all cops know all the laws correctly. I have had a traffic stop on my motorcyle in the past where I was told I am being arrested and my bike is being towed and impounded because they didn't know the law correctly about my lic restrictions at the time. I asked for a superior and when he came he told the rookie he is wrong and he must let me go. So I get that rookies make mistakes but thats on them not us

If I was really worried about this I would just print out and carry the actual law from the RCMP website, its a simple one page
