A couple of questions here guys, these are out of my collecting realm as far as what exactly we have here, I'm not into the Japanese market.

That being said I believe it's a early type 99?

Did this rifle have a Mum to begin with? If so I believe it's been not only ground away as others on the net I have seen but it appears to have been completely polished away.

I thought the butt was cracked...(that's how much I don't know about these) only to happily find out that the perfectly straight break is a joint for the 2 piece butt. The rest of the stock is bruised and scratched butt not cracked anywhere.

Bolt is matching along with extractor and bayonet lug is also numbers matching matching.

Before I inspected the bore I figured it was going to be like a sewer pipe, the bore is very, very nice!!!

I'm missing the main tang screw to tie the top and bottom tang together, where would I be able to find a screw?

Lastly...what's this rifle worth in today's market, sorry about the pictures, that's as good as they get with a bum ankle as of recent.

Thanks for looking guys.

Nice rifle. All Japanese type 99 rifles issued to the Imperial army has the Mum. The mums were ground to allow the soldier to surrender their rifle without dishonoring the mark of the Emperor.
Some were very clean and others were very crude. It's hard to find a type 99 with matching serial numbers, especially the bolt. The bore is a chrome-lined and has polygonal rifling.
Missing the cleaning rod, but there are good repro's out there. Did you get the dust cover (common not to have them) they too would be serialized.

Your rifle is made by Nagoya Arsenal 1939-1945, Can't make out the series (the mark in from of the serial number). Nagoya made rifles in series 1 - 12. Depending on the date made, your rifle may have had a monopod and anti-aircraft sights (an aiming arm on either side of the rear sight). But mid-war the Japanese stopped putting them on but made rifles that could be upgraded at a later date.

As for the value, your rifle looks like it has been scrubbed and reblued poorly. Arisakas were blued, at least the stock looks untouched, leave the original urushi lacquer finish. So a value between $475 to $550. Maybe more with a repro cleaning rod and trigger guard screw replaced and a repro type 99 sling.

You can buy a new trigger guard screw set from numrich for $9 usd ht tps://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/890780.

If you can get a better picture of the series stamp it would be great.
