Shooting rest

Hello,

Looking for advice on a stable shooting platform. Currently I am just using a bipod and my hand to hold the stock stable. I know there are many different opinions out there, my goal is to have a stable platform for shooting long distance rimfire and for groups. On the more affordable side of things too.
Is a bipod and rear bag the way to go? If so, what bipod and rear bags are people using.

Personally this is a good starting point as they are not the most expensive but will last until the "Big Boys" sell you on something else.

Another great option for a bipod is the Mystic Precision M-Pod. While it costs a little more than a Harris, it is extremely stable. Pair it up with a decent rear bag and you’ve got a solid setup.

A solid bipod which slides rather than sticks to the shooting bench surface and a good rear bag will give you much better results than just a bipod with rear hand support.

Some of the fancier / more robust bipods will be almost as solid as a front rest.

There's a huge spectrum of bipods to choose from: My personal favorite is the Henry Rempel Ski-pod.

Rear bags can be had fairly inexpensively. Fill it with sand or fine shot for best results.

Again, it all depends how much you want to spend. SEB bags are the top of the heap but there are many other brands that will work well for your intended purpose.

Front rests run the gamut from basic to exotic. If you are looking at front rests, get one with an adjustable top which allows you to secure the sides of the stock , not one that just has the stock sitting wobbly on top of the bag.

There have been horror stories 'bout these kritters and damage they do.
One known fact, we were out with two sleds and four scopes rattled loose.

Yes, that happens because stupid people put too much weight on them. It's like putting your gun butt up against a post and pulling the trigger. Follow the very simple instructions that come with them and you will never hurt your gun.
