My current work in progress. Ive stripped the thick paint like varnish off to reveal what looks like maple stock. Itll be my daughters first scattergun. 9mm flobert voere

Not sure what the proof marks mean yet. Its a nice light handy rimfire smoothbore and patterns incredibly well at 15 yards with its massive 1/4 oz payload of #10 shot

Heres some pics of my ithaca 4e. It has a weird habit of slightly unlocking when fired if held loose. When held firmly against my shoulder it stays locked. No play what so ever in it. Several gun smiths couldnt find an issue with it. It also snapped a metal bar in the forearm during the last competition i shot.

Good idea for a thread Byron.

I have a J & W Tolley 12 gauge single barrel game gun. Weighs in at 5 pounds even and has 29" barrels with an open choke. Excellent , light weight ruffed grouse gun.

I've posted it on CGN before, but why not?

Someone needs to start making singles like that tolley again.
I realize the great expense of craftmanship would place them well above the average shooters reach and many would scoff at the price for just a single shot gun but they should be cheaper than a comparable double gun which is a plus lol

There are some European singles that are a step up from Cooey/H&R/Stevens utility guns, but I don't know if anyone is offering even a modestly upscale gun.

Probably the best modern flintlock single is the Pedersoli Mortimer gun.

I often thought about buying a cabelas branded one but have always passed over. Had one in my online cart several times just never went thru with it. Ive been watching a certain site which carrys pedersoli but been looking for a 72cal sxs frontstuffer instead. Maybe one day ill get a flinter and let a deer have a laugh at me

Outstanding gentlemen! The single-shot I bring to the table is far less remarkable; a Brazilian CBC in .410, but it was signifcant to me for two reasons: Firstly, as the first break-action I ever owned it was the gateway drug that got me hooked on doubleguns; Secondly, it was the gun I carried all through the life of my first beagle, seen here with the last rabbit of the many that she brought to me over her 12 years.

I grew up running beagles for bunnies. Some of the best hunting times ive ever had. Also likely the birthplace of a touch of tourettes. Love beagles but man can they be stubborn. Nothing compared to hunting over a basset hound though. Beagles were fast basset was so slow. Either way i miss the music of their songs

This is one heck of a good idea.
I sure wish I could do that.
I had a few really good hunting dogs.
And I miss them everyday
old timer Lou

At the other end of the spectrum, here is a plain English 16ga percussion single. Post 1813 Birmingham proofs, "LONDON" on the top flat. Unsigned. This is an example of the generic shotguns exported from Birmingham in the mid 19th century. This one was used, but cared for. Bore is in decent condition, indicating it was properly cleaned after use. Interestingly, the ramrod appears to be original. The only repair is of an internal crack at the tip of the forend. Must have been done in the '60s, because the epoxy used is cream coloured. Gun is sound, and I will be testing it this spring.

This one is a Cogswell & Harrison. A higher grade gun than the last one, although a long ways from being a British Best, in superior condition. The bore is shiny. Beautiful figure in the barrel and rib. Another original ramrod. Given C&H's dates, this is a rather late muzzleloading shotgun, post 1870.
