which sks is the best

My friend looked at one of my SKS that has been used for hunting and wanted to buy it for 300 bucks. He continued on saying that this SKS had no collection value at all given the fact that the numbers didn't match at all and the stock wasn't straight even, but the killing power he could feel was stunning. I told him to bug off of course. :D

Yeah, the best one is the one in your hand.

hes right, yours and most chinese sks has no collection value, except for the sino-soviet model but im quite willing to part with my all matching factory 26 1965 for $300, tell your friend lets talk. :D

Where do you even find an SKS these days. Been looking all over for one including Norc but no one seems to have any.
 
I do not think anyone has them in stock,best place is to watch the EE milsurp form and most cost a lot. I emailed marstar to see if they expecting any yesterday,they have not got back to me yet.If they do i'll post there eta.
There is a Yugo in the EE now,was a D model last week.So one goes up for sale every few days seems like.
 
Dumb question what is the access paper.:)
I found it i think from the hints,it is a a website that sells subscriptions to a paper magazine for selling guns.

heres is a comparison of the workmenship of my chinese factory 26 1965 next to my russian tula 1954 , bare in mind the tula was refurbish with some sort of black paint but i can still see below the surface that both has identical workmenship also i believe the russian donated their sks making machinery to factory 26 so its not surprising the standard of workmenship is the same for at least the first 10 years.

on all the pic, above or to the right : factory 26 1965 , below or to the left : factory tula 1954

note the same symbol on the bottom the ladders. minor differences in the levers and the rear sight itself.

threaded barrels with long lug, rear sights are nicely finished.

note the 1965 is slightly better machining than the tula.....both spring retainers are machined, i also had a factory 26 1967 and the retainer was stamped.

both milled trigger housings. i also had a factory 26 1967 and it had spot welded sheet metal stamped housing.

Yes they are really close in the overall metal work and pretty much the same if they were not textured different so you could see the difference. It really comes down to what your preference is,the russian has a more textured look and the chinese has a more modern smooth look.

you are welcome... altho both have the same workmenship, the tula cost twice as much as the factory 26 1965.

i forgot to mention that the major differences would be in the bayo and wood.

tula came with a blade and factory 26 came with a spike.

the wood on the tula is laminated , very pretty but it aint original , it was replaced at the factory when they refurbished it cos most of the original wood was made of hard artic birch which easily cracked . i wonder if that was the reason why the chinese came with such fugly soft wood , they didnt find a suitable hard wood till later. :D

I suggest the Yugo M59. A beautiful rifle with milled components.
 
Ok, thanks for the great pic's T, I am no wood expert lol, but now I can see by looking at yours that mine is not laminated. Guess I am lucky not to have any cracks in the stock that I am always hearing about. Since the refurb has been done who know how long ago, I think I am the only one has shot the rifle since there was no markings at all from the take down levers until I took the rifle apart. This makes me wonder now, that if I start firing it, if that will cause it to crack since if it is the original stock it is 57 yrs old.

i guess your sks was never sent to siberia in the winter (to guard the prisoners) . :D

naaaah, i wouldnt worry about your original stock cracking under normal usage , unless you plan to take it out winter hunting , moisture and bitter cold probably aint good for it but if you are that concern then i would recommend you swap your russian stock with the chinese one you have when in use, just remember your grouping not gonna be good with soft wood.

btw, how many cross pin do you have? if you got only one in the front then your stock is definately an original. you can see mine got two.
