22 elr

You can certainly use that NF scope... just shim the set up like crazy. One of the biggest hurdles with ELR shooting in any format is adjusting for the massive amounts of drop.

new scopes like the Athlon Midas TAC and Ares ETR with 34mm tubes come with 32mils of travel and reticles that have another 19mils. Shimmed a whole bunch, you have the working elevation to make the very long trips easier and avoid kentucky hold overs.

Waiting for the snow to melt....

Zeroed my new Midas tac, was able to zero .2 mil above the bottom. Have a full 34 mil of adjustment. That should get me to 600 with no holdover. Love it

Last year I just started on my 200 m accuracy , I will get back to this ELR
group at the end of this season as I'm not in your league yet ........ S

Sounds like fun. I have a 9" x 13" steel target that I've been plinking at past 400 yards. It's amazing how accurate you can be with a 22 at those distances. You will experience the odd "flier" that makes you scratch your head and any little fart in the wind will push you off target. Under good conditions I'm seeing a 85% - 90% hit ratio out to about 475 yards. The challenge really starts after 500 yards. At that point you need a lot of elevation adjustment. Adjustable scope bases or adjustable ring mounts are a necessity. Ivey and ERATAC come to mind. Or there's also TacomHQ and now NF making those light bending prism thingamajigs.

That’s pretty good accuracy for the 22,

Just go for it... find a bare patch of dirt in that 300m berm and send it.

Getting shots there is no biggie, the tuning and adjusting to get a consistently small group is the challenge.

Forgive me for asking silly questions, two things.

1. How would I know I got a "Hit"? I've made hits at 200M and got a tiny "ping" on steel, at 300M I got a VERY quiet "ding". And that's with no one else firing a shot within 100M of me. I find myself shooting into the snow just so I can see a puff kick up. Sounds to me like you guys shoot well beyond 300M, I can't imagine how anyone can hear the hits. Do you guys use paper and/or paint up the targets every time?
2. Subsonic or supersonic ammo? All my guns group better with subsonic, but the bullet drop is insane. My apps shows around 2ft of extra drop at 300M sub vs. supersonic.

Thanks.

You need to free float the steel. NOt sure how you are setup right now

I can easily hear at 300m, easily.

Going to try for 450 in the winter, 500 plus in the summer. Last weekend @ -5 ish degrees we were hitting at 375 with consistency. Centre x was only running about 900fps as I had 20 mil to get there

I thought ugly ole bears hibernated in the winter but jesus man from March 2020 till Jan 2021, well thats one helluvah sleep haha.

On the subject, I purchased a number of the 1/4” T21 steel targets (titanium carbide) and hangers from Insite and they make a very audible “ding” with 22LR ammo well out past 400 yds. Funny story...my house is about 1000yds behind the range (I’m shooting away from my house, lol). My wife tells me that she was in the yard and could hear the ding of my shots all the way from home. However, she couldn’t hear the sound of the rifle shot! So I know that the titanium carbide targets will give audible feedback as far as you might want to shoot them with a rimfire.

I got some hits at 540 over the past few weeks and have to say with the gong joe 2/3 ipsc you can hear the gong. Takes about 2 seconds but is quite audible. I’ll try to get a video up when I go again
