Is there anyone who owns Leitner-Wise Gas Piston ARs?
How does a person go about getting one? I heard someone on this forum does importing. Is that right?
If now, then can Questa International do it? (I'm sure it will be expensive this way, but just asking)

A member here is a boss at leitner-wise , his name here is "48thhighlander" . I haven't seen him here in awhile , but if you go to ARF.com and go to the "industry" section , then to the leitner-wise forum . He is a moderator there , his name is LWRC_DARREN , you can contact him there . Hope this helps you .

Arms House claim to be the exclusive canadian dealer. This store has been discussed in the past and from what I remember, no one can prove that it actually exists.

They have the rifles on their website, but no prices and no indication they actually have them. Last update was 2006, so methinks it's vapourware right now in Canada.

Might be worth the wait on the LMT piston. If, however, it ever shows up.

I did contact LWRC (which is now Land Warfare Resources Corporation - same initials, different ownership) and confirmed that ArmsHouse will be the exclusive importer. LWRC did say it will probably be a while before the red tape with exportation is cleared. ArmsHouse told me the rifles would start arriving 1 week ago. LWRC did have quite a chuckle when I quoted that. We'll see.

Definitely want one... no make that two!!!

Funny I spoke to Darren for a bit about this issue and eventually he said that they where not going with Armshouse since they could not verify if the FFL had an export lic, and it smacked of running them across the border.

I would be more than willing to consider importing them IF I thought there was a hope in hell of getting State Department to approve an export permit for civilian end-users.

Given what State Department has been doing with their AR permit approvals the last couple of months it would be a total policy reversal for State Dept. to approve that rifle for export to civilian end-users.

Stranger things have happend... but I'm so doubtful that it's simply not worth wasting the time to even try.

Hmmm, wasn't there another company in the US also making an upper with the piston besides HK? Something like POF? Any word on what their uppers are like?

POF makes a GP upper and rifle. Many on this website have expressed less than favourable opinions of that product. We did get an export permit for them approved some time ago and it's still valid so we can import some of these firearms, however, we have no plans to do so at this time.

To be quite honest, POF's dealer program and dealer pricing is a joke. Warranty and service of the product gives us serious concerns since POF offers no real assistance or monetary re-imbursement. It's simply not viable for us to sell these.

Having said that, if someone really wants one we have the permits in place (for the moment) and can import a 3rd Party Purchase if you're interested.

We do NOT expect State Department to renew their approval of export permits for this firearm when the current permit expires.

The permit is for a length of time? Not for quantity or just one order??

You should tell us a date.... Order your POF by such and such or never get one :)

Permits from State Department can be done in a several ways. They always state a quantity (but that quantity could be 1 for a specific person, 5 or 50 for a specific police department or government agency, or it could be 50 units for Questar for the purpose of commercial resale). It easier and faster to get a permit for a specific end-user (1 gun for J. Smith) than to get a permit for 50 of something for commercial resale.

In all cases the permit is good for something less than 1 year... this is because the permit from State Department expires 1 year from the date that the IIC from Ottawa was issued. Ottawa issues IIC's with a 1 year expiry so State Department issues the DSP-5 with that same expiry date. Of course, if the permit is "consumed" before the expiry date then it is also expired as there is no quantity left available to ship.

A permit for 1 unit is obviously expired once the 1 unit is exported from the US. A permit for 50 units could be used up in one big export shipment or by shipping 1 unit a week for 50 weeks... it doesn't matter.

As for our POF permit it has a dated expiry of Feb. 14th 2008
