I'm looking at picking up a mk3 stalker or the previous model shorttrac lightweight stalker in 308. Looking to hear from people with experience with the shorttrac and mk3

Cant speak for the Mk3 or shorttrac but I did have a longtrac stalker and oilfinish both in 30-06. Should be the same as a shorttrac but just in long action. I had and still have a few BAR rifles so can only compare to them. Compared to the Type II, Mk2 Safari and lightweight stalker, the Longtrac was the most accurate of them all. With reloads I was able to sustain an honest 5 shot 1.25 - 1.5" group at 100 yrds on average. I had a few groups which were sub-moa but again average was as described. Never had any issue with the Longtrac but I didnt hunt with it or take it out in the elements. I probably fired about 100rds and it ran flawless. Lighter and better balanced than the older BAR rifles. Not sure why I sold it....has a lot of polymer and no factory irons. I kept my Mk1 type II's and a Lightweight stalker, mainly because I like the iron sights. Only BAR rifles that gave me grief are the Type II's which I kept after working out the issues. If you want to use a bipod, the Longtrac/shorttrac is no-go because of where the swivel stud is located. Seems they fixed that problem on the Mk3.
