C. Law's book "Without Warning" has some info on binoculars issued to Canadian snipers and I'm convinced it was part of their kit. Not sure about Brits?

Anyone know what a set of REL 6x30 Binoculars are worth...with and/or
without the case? Any recent sales?

I still find them around for from $60 to $125 with the case. Trying to attach the "sniper" term to them really isn't correct, since they were the general issue binoculars of the day. But both the Brits and the Cdns deleted the scout regiment scope and replaced it with the binoculars later in the war, according to Law.
Now here is the Canadian sniper scope:

Still see them now and then for about $125 (good shape pieces) with C Broad Arrow marked Canadian case. I saw a very nice pair at last gun show, but they were $150 and no case.

Here's the set in ~Angel~'s collection...

They did where the, at least their observers did and obviously also for photo opportunities. Here's a piece from the comments section of the No.4(T) Long Branch sniper entry in the Knowledge Libray.

There's a Toronto East Military Collector'ss Show run in Etobicoke once every couple of months. I think the next one has the venue moved to the Markham Fair Grounds and then in 2008 it moves back to Etobicoke. IT has NO live firearms, except deacts, but has a great selection of everything else military.

Check the Meetings and Events Forumshttp://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=54 for details.

There was a new vendor there that had a set (not sure about strap), plus he had some nice pieces of soldier's personal kit from WWII (ie: personal shaving gear set .. all broad arrow marked)

In 1994 - Those binocs with a case and dated 1944 were about $40. And a No4Mk1(T) with scope, $600. The good old days!

Not in the best of shape, but they work great as my hunting binos.

I'm still trying to figure out the range finder...anyone have a copy of a manual hanging around?

For the German 6X30 Binoculars with a grid there is a formula for Range Estimation:

Target Height X 1000/Grid Lines = Distance

If you see a man in the distance and he occupies 5 grid lines in height in the binocs, (assumption:the average man is 1.7 meters tall.)

1.7 meters X 1000/5 grid lines = 340 meters

He is 340 meters away from you.
