Hey CGN

I'm just wondering if anyone knows why the mauser vergueiro has such a short butt stock? I don't think its just my rifle as other examples i have seen are the same length.

No parkas were needed for the troops where they were stationed and based.

Maybe coincidence but length from heel of butt on Vergueiro to bolt handle is same on Kropatschek.

I have one in 6.5 x58 and one in 8mm Mauser. Both very nice, just waiting on dies to shoot the 6.5.

I have been fortunate enough to have owned two of these rifles in the original 6.5 X58 chambering. They are a joy to handle and are very good shooters as a bonus.Loadable brass is very easy to form from 7x57 or 8x57 Mauser as well as 270 or 30-06.

I have one in 8mm with matching numbered bayonet nice rifle to shoot I have cases of the original Portuguese 8mm ammo When they sold the guns , they sold all the ammo

Damn your lucky, especially if you have the non-corrosive Portuguese surplus ammo!

Pretty cool rifles though, I have a 6.5 and a 8. Traded a Russian Capture k98k for the 8mm, however there is no regrets there even if the value is technically less as the Verguero is a much better gun.

Way back when a friend of mine had a beautiful 8mm.
This was in the early 90's long before YouTube or anything. He lived on the 18th. floor of an apartment building converted to condo's. I was fooling around with the bolt and it launched the firing pin right out the window! It landed in the grass unharmed, lucky it didn't hit anybody!

I have not shot one in the original 6.5 but my 8mm is extremly smooth. I might just have to pick up a "wussy" pad to extend the butt stock a little bit.
