I have a .22 trainer enfield with H's stamped all over it. It is a Long Lee conversion, LSA co.

Was this rifle brought to me by the letter H or what?

I've browsed all the enfield marking sites I know of.

"H" on the bbl. reinforce marks Australian No1 MkIII heavy barrel. Elsewhere, who knows?

Yeah I knew about the Australian heavy barrel snipers. This is of course, totally different. There are H's on every part of the rifle.

It's also an EY stamped one.

An "N" on the receiver buttsocket indicates naval use.

An "H" on the barrel knox means it was a lithgow heavy bbl. HV/SC stamped behind the rear sight means the gun is sighted for the high velocity, short cone (ie, MkVII) ammo.

H's stamped everywhere? I dunno... "owned by Herbert McBubba"?

Someone should start an SMLE marking sticky. I've got a rifle and bayonet, both stamped N. I've also got a bayonet stamped X. So, now I know the N stands for naval use. But, I have no idea what the X stands for.

Let's see if I can enumerate the H's on this rifle. I've seen HV's stamped near the rear sight of many .22s, but this is different.

Barrel
Receiver near Barrel
Receiver Near Volley Sight
Receiver Wrist

I think I've posted this 10 times in the last year.......

Anyway, it's basic but answers 80% of the same repeating questions most people ask.

Skenneton's book "The Broad Arrow - Manufacture, Proof, Inspection, Armourers & Unit Markings" is one of the most thorough hard copy reference books on the subject that I've found.

Sadly, no H on that site.

That's most likely because as described, it isn't a vaild manufacture, proof, inspection, or armourers & unit marking. ;)

The only time I've ever seen the "H" is as claven2 already described for you, on the barrel knox means it was a lithgow heavy bbl.

H's all over every part of the rifle as you indicate, sounds like a personalized marking of an owner.

Skennerton also doesn't refer to this kind of multi "H" pattern, other than again, in single form as claven2 described....

Pics might help....
