Sorry for the dodgy iPhone pic quality on some of these, the last three were about 300y uphill. The big black bear is being watched from above buy a big brown colour phase bear that was trying to sneak into the block of berry patches. I watched them for a couple days in a row, the black bear would chase off the brown phase bear if it caught it in the block. I was almost able to get in a good position along a ridge up the one edge of the block for a shot on the black one but he slipped off and chased out the brown bear, nonetheless it was fun to watch them do their thing. If you look closely in the last two pics you can see the brown phase bear behind the one tree and watching in the last pic as it crept off through the timber.

The cub shot up the tree as I was driving up to an area, mom was down the bank somewhere, I didn’t stop to see where she was lol.

Here are some pics of last spring prep and my bait station. Took my 8 year old out to start baiting, was a terrible weekend for weather but he loved it. Spent 10 hrs setting up 4 baits across 15 kms, never complained a once!

Here's a pic to give you an idea of how much rain we had!

We got this monster on camera, but never saw him during the hunt.

You gotta give them a bit to fatten up after they come out of hibernation, season opens on April 1 but give things a month to get good.

In my experience, around Kamloops, there's usually still too much snow to get anywhere in the back country before May and not enough green to get bears moving. I've often tried going out in April as I get too antsy but never any much sign if we can actually get anywhere.
