M14 Cycling Oprod and Hand Guard Cutout-Were there Finger Injuries from this Design when the rifle was fired if the fingers were in the wrong place?

1) on a real M14 the cutout is filled with selector components - no place for fingers to go.

2) I can't imagine what rifle hold you would have for an oprod on an M1 or M14 to hit hands or fingers during firing.

So... IMHO, a non-issue.

On the RHS, in front of the chamber where the HG is cut out, when the charging handle cycles, there is an open area where you could get your fingers caught if holding rifle improperly when rifle cycles, sorry if I wasn't clear.

The oprod is shaped like a wedge and would just push your fingers out of the way.

I bet if you even tried to get injured you couldn't with that shape.

Will have to try a Crash Test Dummies fingers in there and see what happens!

I think those are called soldiers 😜

But in all seriousness, given it’s the same cutout and op-rod design (in this area) as the M1, it sounds like no one in the history of both rifles has reported a stuck or injured finger from getting caught in there so I’d say it’s pretty well a non issue.
