Why do we start to Hate some calibers?

30-30 does nothing for me, but that could be a function of my dislike for lever guns.
.303 doesn't light my fire either.

Is this a safe place to admit to being creedmore-curious?

I'll make your day then. In my youth, for big game, I started out with a Simpon-Sears sporterized Lee Enfield in 303 Br. Never had any problem filling tags with it and there's always been one of that calibre in the gun safe. Most often, its been and is a Jungle Carbine. However, from the local gun show today I added another variation in that calibre. A model 95 Winchester.

There’s no bad cartridges, only bad cartridge owners. Who would have thought the horrible people who shoot the creed could make people hate it so

There are some cartidges/calibres I like and some I don't like. "Don't like" doesn't mean the same as "dislike," I can't think of any that I dislike, let alone hate.

I haven’t found a cartridge or caliber I don’t want to try. From the most ancient of them to the newest. I want to try them all. Life’s to short for just one. I shoot cause I love to shoot and when I read about positive experiences with obscure rounds I want them even more. Don’t care if they were eclipsed by something else of if they’re obsolete cause they all have a place.

My .....not interested....303, 308, 350 mag.

303: not just cartridge....platforms. Lee enfield or Ross. Ya i know....No1...im not spending that much for a 303. What 180 at 2300-2400.

308: a modern version of 303. About the same velocity. Better, modern platforms...i have 4, 30 cals i like better.

350 mag: had one. 8 months, couldnt find ammo, dies, brass. That when i lived in a major center. Sold the rifle, never going back.

My start or intro into big game, was with a;) Simpon-Sears sporterized Lee Enfield. As my first, it served my needs in the interior on Moose, Mule Deer and Black Bear. That was roughly in the very early 60's and since that time, there's always been one in the gun safe. More often than not, it's been, and is at the moment, in the form of a Jungle Carbine. At the recent local gun show, I added another 303Br to my little 'harem',:) in the form of a model 95 Winchester:d.
With the 303's I have, I've also had a 308. But, with the 303's and a 30-06 inherited from my Dad, didn't see any further need for the 308 so it went.
Never had a 350 mag as such, but I do have a pair of 358 Norma Mags. The one, a Husqvarna, MAY one day be put up for 'adoption', but the other, a Schultz & Larsen, is a keeper:d.

Why people like or dislike any cal. is a varied as people are . I love history , so older cal. interest me . I have 1 bolt action .30-06
for hunting lg. game @ longer distances . I have another in a Winchester 1895 . My most expensive hunting trip was with a guide
near Calgary for Elk . I used a Winchester Model 1895 , made , in 1904 in cal . .405 Win . One shot @ 125 yds = dead.
After owning many guns , only 1 was a .308 . I sold it as it was too new , in my mind . I am deer hunting (in the bush) with a Win. 64
in .32 SP. I have a few old '94 s in .30-30 , but never hunt with them . One cal. new to me is a .25-35 . I plan to hunt deer with it
in the bush ( 75 yds. max. ) . There are so many cal. . Good , as there are so many people.

John, i have a 308 norma. The 358 would definitely interest me....not much of a stretch....get it....to reform brass. Playing with idea of a popper with pistol powder, 358 pistol bullets.

Over the years, my focus has been/is decent quality hunting rifles, shotguns and handguns. I'm not a collector,;) with one small exception. Since I saw my first,;)and in 308NM, the Schultz & Larsen became my favorite bolt action. My small three gun Schultz & Larsen 'collection', was triggered somewhat by the three cartridges shown on the red cover of the Norma #65 Gunbugs Guide. These are the 7x61S&H, 308NM and the 358NM, which were supposedly brought to commercial market by the joint efforts of Norma and Schultz & Larsen. To cover my needs for ammo and components, that seems to be my primary quest at gun shows these days. As such, I have an ;) adequate supply of new brass and bullets as well as some loaded ammo.

I’m on the fence . The 6.5 Swede crowd has either forced me to hate it or love it . I’m undecided but they really do jump in on all caliber conversations . As far as the others I’m not a .300wm fan after owning one . Maybe not enough hair on my chest or unrealistic due to the volume I shoot

I don't hate any calibers and think everyone should try as many as possible. It's good to see what kind of accuracy a given caliber is capable of producing, But more interesting is seeing a given caliber's performance out in the field.

Throughout the history of cartridges, some have been successful and some have not, and gun enthusiasts have grumbled about "why do we have these newfangled cartridges?"

In 1925 people grumbled about why we needed the 270 Winchester, when the 30-06 was all that was required. :)

Yep... It's called a bell curve....

There is the cranky hating new or change people on the left grumbling about how the cartridge is not needed and a waste..... The sane folks in the middle keeping an open mind.... and, of course, the folks on the right selling their dignity to declare it as royalty that replaces a time honoured, effective choice whilst tossing dancing bananas around on the internet.....

History always repeats itself....
