Well after a couple of range visits,I got the 300 Win to shoot pretty good. I was coming back from the range and I spotted one little Eastern Vermin Cottontail.
It was only about 125 yards down a gravel road sitting there waiting for me.
I laid down on the road and extended the bi-pod and loaded a 190 BTSP and aimed for his fuzzy little noggin...............all I found was a rear leg.
No bunny soup for my neighbor tonight............

yeah thats about what i would expect.

with the mess ive seen a 22-240 makes of a prerrie dog, a 300 win would REALLY explode a small animal. all i can say is atleast it didnt suffer any lol.

That would not get you arrested in Ontario, shot meat is not meat that you can save, but you would have to go take the legs, or well anything that you can actually tell what it is off the thing, ha ha.
I was going to try to take the top off a showshoe hare at about 10 feet with my 30-30, but figured I would not even have enough left for a stew.

as to legalities, what does shooting from the road net a guy in fines:confused:
i was under the impression that shooting from the road was illegal (maybe only in manitoba) and also dangerous to you and any other vehicles that could be travelling on it.
btw, i'm not trying to be a safety nazi, just asking.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but there is enough logging roads out here to safely blast all the flea bitten vermin you can get your sights on.:50cal:

Shooting from trails or gravel is fine AFAIK, providing you are shooting in a safe direction and are a safe distance from housing or other structures. NOW, belly down on the #1 with a .338 = BAD IDEA.

Common sense people, that's the way I see it.

trails and machine or logging roads i understand to be legal, but just crossing a provincial gravel road with a loaded firearm is illegal isn't it, let alone shooting on the road?
or is that only during hunting season?
i was always taught to empty my rifle before crossing the gravel roads, then reloading once i was across.
now i'm confused:redface:

Are you on a quad or in a vehicle, either way carrying a loaded firearm will get you into deep sh1t fast.

It depends on where you are, a lot of the old logging/access roads in Ontario are not actually roads as they are no longer maintained or were never maintained. In the case of out camp, the road is on a private lane that used to be a concession road that the township does not want to keep up anymore so you can shoot from that road, and walk down it with a loaded gun. As for loaded firearms in vehicles, that is very illegal, I have heard of a few guys that leaned the gun against their truck, or sat on the tailgate with a loaded gun and got nailed.
