OSA Service Rifle Championships 28-29 Sep. Be There?

A space/race gun owns the deliberate and prone shoots. There were some 50.X shoots with them at NSCC this summer.

When they try to haul those same rifles out for rundowns and positional shoots, they don't tend to shoot as well.

Different rifle? Different lot of powder? Cooler weather?
At any rate, it was an excellent weekend, a quality event. I think all participants had a good time. Lots of smiles when the awards were being given out.

That's a bit warm. I blow primers at 24.5.

Hmmm. The Lyman book says 26.0gr is max load, and I don't show over-pressure signs.....plus I use new brass for the matches. This load shot amazing for the match!

Never had a primer crater or blow yet.

I couldn't use more than 24.5 gr with the Hornady 68 BTHP's though, due to their longer length and consequent reduction in case volume at mag length.

Were you able to chrono those loads? Just curious what vel you get.

I have put 26.0 grains in Win and IVI cases, and it overflows the IVI and is almost all the way to the top of the Win cases.

I'm currently at 25.5 grains in my win cases (out of a dillon 550) and it comes to the bottom of the shoulder:confused: I seat the 69s to 2.250" and get just a bit of compression. If I single load and use a drop tube, there is no compression.

I used to load 26 grains, but was getting signs of pressure so I backed off to 25.5. I'm not convinced it is really doing much for the accuracy, so I may back it off to 25 and add clicks. It seems to me after reading a number of threads from AR guys the consencus is 25 of Varget with 69 SMKs.

Keebler! You rock!! I'm real proud of your accomplishment. Top Tyro!!

All this 5.56 still won't tempt me away from my 7.62 beast. Muhahaha!! It's easier to find brass amidst all the little ones.

This was a good learning match for me. I got to go back to drawing board and rethink some equipment tweaking for next year.

As always, great match by the OSA Tim, Barney, and Bill. This is gold!!

I will try to chrony my remaining match ammo on Wednesday at my local range and let you all know. With 24.5gr of Varget behind the 68gr Hornady's, I was only getting 2500fps. My first match in May, I shot this bullet with 23.5gr!!! The wind killed me!!

My 26.0gr of Varget comes to the very bottom of the neck on my new Winchester cases, so with the SMK's it's mildly compressed.

I have no idea about this load other than to say, in my rifle they haven't given me any problems, and they shoot like gangbusters!! (or whatever cliche you would like ;) )

I'm going to test these rounds in my Tikka 24" Tactical 1-8" bolt gun too, and see how they work!

Wow! I average 2875 fps with Hornady 68s & 24.5gr. Varget (again Colt 20" 1:7 - oal of 2.250")

Oh yeah, what were the scores?:D

I jumped from a 382 in July, to a 523.21v this match......with a 47.4 in the 500M run-down. Last match, I think I got an 18

Shelldrake won the Grand Ag with a score of 573.44v!!!! Wow!

I tied him for the Match 9, 500M Deliberate win with a 49.3.......which I can't believe. (My score, that is.) I called a shot into the 4 ring to miss the 50.x honours, but I'm learning.

I definitely put my practice, working out, and planning to good use! Somehow......I took the Top Tyro plaque home.

By the way....

:needPics:

EDIT: I screwed up the winner of the 500 rundown, and edited it out.

Well, that's about it here in Ontario til next year,
It has been a great year for the shooting sports in Ontario, and congrats to all those who took part.

Later,
Shelldrake

Thanks a whole bunch Shelldrake.

To you other CGNutters:

I have been briefed re: Op Security. We must keep names and ranks away from public knowledge since many of the shooters involved have (I'm serious) been to Asskrakistan on operation, a few are going for their first tour, and a few more whom I spoke to down in the butts are preparing for a SECOND  tour. Good on 'em.

Very few other shooting matches here in Kanada can boast the numbers of brave troopers willing to step up and put it on the line against the Taliban czcksxckers who want to return A'stan back to the 12th century dunghole.

HOOAH !

I'm Tyro 51 in the list. (Yep....I'm pretty happy about my scores!! I shot less than 300 in my first match in May.)

I haven't been able to chrony that 26 grain Varget load due to rain.

I will try again Friday. I'll run it through the AR, and my Tikka. I need the data to build a chart for my OSA Sniper match this weekend. I'm going to use the same match ammo in my 24" Tikka Tactical .223 bolt gun, and see how it works back to 600M at MilCun.
